[SOLVED] Problems installing Dropbox

Right Click to bring up your menu --> Network --> Dropbox --> Install Dropbox. It should pull up a terminal window that will help you install it.

I've done this but it won't work. I received a fetching file error (dropbox.py). So I opened a terminal and typed

bl-dropbox-pipemenu --install-dropbox

The problem were that the installer file (dropbox.py) was not marked as executable. So I chmoded +x it, and relaunches the pipemenu. Another error "Dropbox installation failed". Terminal only shows

Gtk-Message: GtkDialog mapped without a transient parent. This is discouraged.

that not seem to be the problem.

If I try to execute bl-dropbox-pipemenu --install-dropbox with sudo permissions, it do download and install correctly, but it needs root privileges to run, and I don't want to grant root access to a third-party app.

Any idea?
Thanks in avant.

Re: [SOLVED] Problems installing Dropbox

Do you have a default installation of BunsenLabs?

The command

bl-dropbox-pipemenu --install-dropbox

should get 'dropbox.py', install it to '~/bin' and make it executable (using function 'get_dropbox.py( )')

Re: [SOLVED] Problems installing Dropbox

Yes, it's a default installation. It's installed 2 or 3 months ago and updated when needed.
I've installed some software using apt and the only non standard repo is the spotify one. As fas as I remember I didn't mess with config files or installed anything strange.

Using sudo works well, but I don't feel comfy running it with those privileges.
Thanks for your answer.

Re: [SOLVED] Problems installing Dropbox

So do you have dropbox.py in ~/bin, and does it have permissions set to 755?

Re: [SOLVED] Problems installing Dropbox

Right.
But I had to set chmod +x manually.

We'll probably never know what the glitch for you was, so I suggest we consider this SOLVED (not marking it, though, in case we get new info).

I don't care what you do at home. Would you care to explain?

But is it 755? ie is it executable and owned by $USER, or is it still owned by root?

Yes, permissions were correct. Root never owned this file. Maybe I explained bad.
Anyway I get this working now. I don't know why, but I just removed dropbox.py from ~/bin and rerun the script from obmenu and it worked.
Perhaps first time I ran the script, it didn't download dropbox.py correctly and this provoked the problems.
Working now as normal user.

Thank you for your help!.

Edit : Must I append SOLVED in the title of thread or this is done by administrators?

It is done by the user when she/he considers the problem solved.
