For Stylish you can just paste the contents https://gitlab.com/o9000/darken/raw/master/style.css into a new rule that applies to "Everything". The only advantage of my extension is that it adds a button and a little script that can disable the style per website (actually it cycles through 4 modes: 1 invert colors and reduce contrast, 2 invert colors, 3 reduce contrast and 4 disabled), and it remembers the state for each website.
Great extension! But please check the link ^^^...
Using the Openbox (3.5.2) session of Lubuntu 14.04 LTS but very interested in BL :)

thanks, much appreciated.
trying this on archlinux, firefox ESR 45.1.1
sometimes (quite often actually) the page won't render anymore with this addon, depending on the current mode, it just shows a black or grey or white window. setting it to mode 4 makes the page visible again (but normally).
reloading does not fix it.
i have hardware acceleration enabled.

Interesting. Almost all the work is done by a CSS rule applied to the entire page that uses the invert filter to invert colors. This is most likely hardware accelerated and it seems that on your graphics stack it fails. Sadly I don't think there is anything I can do about it.
The alternative would be to invert background and foreground colors for all elements in the page, but that is very hard to do correctly on sites with dynamic content.

I can massively recommend flux, and other software doing the same thing. It's saved my eyes many a time.

I updated https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo … ht-reader/ for the latest version of Firefox, which is now using a different kind of extensions (basically, they mimic Chrome).

That is a very useful complement to redshift. Thank you o9000!
To get a darkened blank page for new tabs etc. I additionally installed New Tab Override and selected "Empty Page" at it's settings.
