Hello,
I am trying to install bunsenlabs (bl-Hydrogen-i386+NonPAE) on my IBM x31 and I run on a quite strange issue.
When the laptop is docked (on the docking station 91P9024), the installation run smoothly. But when I undock the laptop, after a few time the same issue as below appears.
When the laptop is not docked, after the partitioning, partman send those messages:
partman: No matching physical volumes found
partman: Reading all physical volumes. This may take a while...
partman: No volume groups found
partman-lvm: No volume groups found
(even if, in the interface, everything looks ok)
And then, those errors start (the same when I undock the laptop and used it after a succesfull install on the docking station)
ata1.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x0
ata1.00: BMDMA stat 0x24
ata1.00: failed command: READ DMA
ata1.00: cmd xxxxxxx tag 0 dma 4096 in
ata1.00: status: { DRDY ERR }
I have tried a lot of combination of all thinkable kernall option (acpi=off, libata.noacpi=1 etc.) but nothing worked.
Do you have any idea from where this error may come?
Thanks you,
Zdai

Have you take a look in the bios ? AHCI mode etc...

I tried as far as I could to disable all "useless" function in the BIOS. AHCI is not available on this laptop (it is quite old (2004))

Can you change the disk ?
Try with another disk.

It is a new disk, and the only one I have at the moment. Do you see any (hardware related) reason why the disk would work with the docking station and not without it?

Are you sure this isn't a power related issue? The fact that plugging it in and the laptop detecting an AC power supply may cause it to act differently? I wouldn't thinking this would be the case with just the install...
I would really try and see if you can use a different disk.

I tried to exclude this possibility by installing both time on battery. But I can not completely exclude this possibility. I am trying to get another disk.
In the meantime, if someone has another idea, do not hesitate!

Thank you for your help!
