bunSidlabs lacks persistence of config and other wired behaviour...

Hello folks!

As I mentioned in the title, my installation of hydrogen follows strech/sid and is behaving strange for some days now.
First of all autologin via lightdm works perfectly fine, every third time i start the machine, all the other times it is just asking for username and password while also ignoring the tweaks i adapted to background and so on.
Second thing is that both conky and compositor start properly only every "second" attempt too.
and last of all, all menus (i mean all that are provided by OB) besides lack a good amount of formatting and spacing and all the cute little borders separating the items, so that finding out where one of them ends and the next one begins can be a pain somewhere down there. especially when it comes to this horizontal tab-like menus.

i waited for about a week updating daily but nothing changed or was even improved.
as for the last problem i think it could be related to the bunsen-themes package which is held back for some days now, could this be the case?
for the other problems i am totally clueless because all options and config-files of the mentioned applications worked great untill now even do this right now on my other jessie machine and it seems like the place where the configs are read from varies from startup to startup.

Any help would be highly apreciated and information needed will be provided asap. Thanks in advance!

Hiya Naik!

Please explain exactly what you mean by "held back".

Debian testing/unstable recently transitioned to GTK3.20 and this has broken all the old GTK3 themes so you may need to change to a GTK3.20-compatible theme -- I recommend Arc:
https://github.com/horst3180/arc-theme

Is there anything relevant in `dmesg` when you have the other problems?

You could have a look through the systemd logs, see this guide for more:
https://www.digitalocean.com/community/ … stemd-logs

Note that it is not uncommon for Debian testing/unstable to be broken (the clue is in the name tongue ).

Thanks for the heads up Naik. Did a  dist-upgrade today but did not notice any problems. Will try to get some time to check things this weekend and report back any anomalies.

I know this, Thank you smile
But it is fairly uncommen for Bunsenlabs to stay with a nearly unreadable gtk-theme for more than an hour or so. Thats why i started wondering.

"held back" in this case means that apt-get simply not upgraded it when i was just "apt-get update && apt-get upgrad"-ing but told me

I tried to force it via dist-upgrade but there is no chance of getting this package by now.
I will change the theme for now and will check back later if things possibly will have improved.

surfing the links you provided led me to getting everything else work fine now by changing some filepaths and stuff like this. Thanks!

But the Story continues here...

I don't speak German, use:

sudo LC_ALL=C apt-get upgrade # or any other command

To produce terminal output in English wink

Would you mind sharing the exact changes that you made?

Other people may have the same problems so it would be good if there was a solution here for them as well as you smile
