Tags missing in mpd

Hi all,
I wanted to post this question at the "The ultimate MPD guide" at crunchbang.org but registration is closed there, so I post my question here.
For a lot of my audio files, MPD does not recognise the id3 tags. This happens both with mp3 as well as with flac files. I wrote the tags mostly with easytag as id3v2.4.
Does any one have a clue what to look for?
