Forum email notifications

IIRC on the #! forums when you got an email notification about a new post in a thread you were subscribed to, the email would contain the text (up to a certain length limit) of what was posted, rather than just notify you that a post had been made. Could this also happen with the BL forums? Just a tentative suggestion - if it's better/people like it the way it currently is, that's fine smile

The servant lifted off a kind of ottoman a long peacock-blue drapery, rather of the nature of a domino, on the front of which was emblazoned a large golden sun, and which was splashed here and there with flaming stars and crescents. “You’re to be dressed as Thursday, sir,” said the valet somewhat affably.

Re: Forum email notifications

Hi folks.

Is there any way I can subscribe to a topic/thread and not get email notifications? i.e. the user can get notifications in forum itself (as well).

P. S. I subscribed to an off-topic thread, and then my mailbox got loads of notifications. Back to my question. ;O

Regards,
Eon

You mean as private messages (PM)? No. That's not implemented by the forum software.

What you can do however is use Atom feeds for polling certain high-volume threads. Every topic/thread on the forums, as well as every forum section as well as the entire board has an associated feed. In Firefox, press Ctrl+i and navigate to 'Feeds', and insert the URL into your favourite newsreader. Personally, I prefer newsbeuter. For example, for this very thread, the feed URL is

https://forums.bunsenlabs.org/extern.php?action=feed&tid=438&type=atom

You can query the entire thread this way. In Mozilla Thunderbird for example, you can subscribe to feeds and treat the news stream almost like email.
