There are several popular programs, LibreOffice and Meld come to mind, that try to hard-code their own colors, be warned.
...
I don't know about Meld, but LibreOffice certainly does hard-code some colors.
One example is the color of the symbol that denotes the end of a para (pilcrow). That's a shade of blue and can't be changed.
Another thing I'd like to change is how the row and column headers seem to have two shades split vertically or horizontally. If you use a bright gtk2 theme, it's not an issue, but if you go dark, that split can be quite irritating.
Then there's also a limit to how dark you can go before something else inverts.

Re libre-office-gtk - thank you so much for that. I've spent the last few days writing an essay for my post-grad course and it has been driving me mad with its Windows2000-y look. Now it's integrated with the rest of Bunsen I can relax

Nice one @vasa1
Little script, with some basic formatting for the output (NB no error-checking etc):
...
@damo, thanks for looking into that. But did you notice the high CPU usage? Not really a big deal but if one is more frugally minded maybe something can be done with this:
List all applications (and their dependencies) using a particular toolkit, with
apt-get remove -s libgtk-3-0 | grep Remv | cut -d ' ' -f -2
apt-get remove -s libgtk2.0 | grep Remv | cut -d ' ' -f -2
apt-get remove -s libqt4* | grep Remv | cut -d ' ' -f -2
apt-get remove -s libqt5* | grep Remv | cut -d ' ' -f -2
Modified from http://unix.stackexchange.com/q/72694/15760
Caution: if even a single package is "held" in a particular category, the respective command may not work. For example, I got a hold on google-chrome-stable. While the other commands go through, the gtk2 one fails with
E: Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.

libreoffice's gtk integration should work ok these days.
i have 5.0.5 (libreoffice-still on archlinux) installed, it depends on gtk2 and does not require any extra packages.
i rarely use dark themes anymore, because apps like firefox and LO tend to not like them (and NO firefox darkfix has been able to solve this to my satisfaction).
medit really isn't a very good editor, at least compared to geany.
i only use it because of conky syntax hightlighting.
someone (me?) really should port it to geany.

hhh - you make good themes
Thanks, 11!
I don't care what you do at home. Would you care to explain?

You're welcome hhh.
OK, lets get this topic back to » Themes for BL and OpenBox
Text editors and LO can have their own threads ... and I'm as guilty as anyone.
I'm at a stand still I can't figure out how to get dark text where the background is light.
Here's my attempt with Bunsen-Blackish and my current theme.

^ Much of this depends on tweaks to individual gtk widgets, and some of it stems from the theme engine itself...but in this case, try a darker shade for fg_color. (EDIT: My guess, without having seen the code for BunsenBlackish, is that the barely-visible text elements are fg_color (#d9d9d9) and the background they're against is base_color (#e0e0e0).)

It's actually base color and text color you should edit. I'm trying to post a scrot but my internet has been crawling lately (flipping Comcast sux).

^ I thought about text_color first, but in Sector11's screenshot I saw that he already has that at #000000; can't get any darker than that.

I think it's impossible to do. No matter what theme I check or how I tweak this one, it's either all light text on a dark background, or all dark text on a light background.
Of course, themers would have known that.

Hello all,
I'm finally making the transition from CrunchBang Waldorf over to BL RC2 on my physical machines. I've had RC2 in VMs for a while now. One thing that does interest me from the BL homepage, are the following screenshots:
https://www.bunsenlabs.org/img/frontpag … /djzk2.jpg
https://www.bunsenlabs.org/img/frontpag … ry/hhh.jpg
https://www.bunsenlabs.org/img/frontpag … /djzk3.jpg
https://www.bunsenlabs.org/img/frontpag … y/hhh2.jpg
How do I achieve these themes / widgets? I have looked through the standard appearance settings but I am guessing I'm going need something a little extra in order to get the kind of look-and-feel as in the screenshots above, notably those translucent windows.

^ Look through the Artwork & Screenshots and Conky threads. Those configurations have all appeared there I think, so the components of the themes are most likely mentioned in the posts.
Some are definitely non-default setups ie imported themes, icons, menu setup etc.
The "translucent windows" can easily be achieved via your compositor settings.

that's just conky
hhh likes to use xfce, and undecorated windows, and nice fonts. really these are just standard apps, but hhh really knows how to make them look elegant.
nothing special there, a nice flat gtk theme and papirus or paper icons
see nr. 2)
the panel seems to be tint2 in all scrots.
