I came across Bug 1240591 - Clipboard is cleared when LO is closed
Can anyone using LibreOffice check whether whatever is copied is retained for pasting elsewhere after LibreOffice has been closed?
If the answer is yes, which version of LibreOffice and gtk3, not gtk2, are you using?
Using the Openbox (3.5.2) session of Lubuntu 14.04 LTS but very interested in BL :)

The behaviour described in bugreport applies to me both for the gtk3 and gtk2 frontends with LO version 5.1.1. I suppose they are still using their broken clipboarding implementation.

Works fine here. Version: 5.1.2.1.0

Thanks for the replies but I think the gtk version has something to do as well:
dpkg -l libgtk2.0-0 libgtk-3-0
I'm still on gtk 3.10 and so I don't have the gtk3 version of LibreOffice. It's still in gtk2 mode even though I have
Version: 5.1.0.3

I think mine is GTK2. No sure whatsoever.

If pasting works after you close LibreOffice, you are on the appropriate version of GTK3 (>3.10). At least that's what I got from the bug I linked to above.

gtk 3.14.5-1+deb8u1
LO 1:5.1.1-1~bpo8+1
Working ok here.

i know a few apps doing that.
i cannot reproduce the problem either way, because i have been using a clipboard manager for so long.
i know it's a workaround and not a direct answer to your question, but it's a workaround to many(*) problems and i highly recommend using one.
mine is clipit (actually isn't it installed and active by default on bunsenlabs?).
(*) e.g. the primary vs. secondary clipboard confusion
