A Package for Testing?

Hey all,

No, I'm not referring to Debian's Testing here. What I mean is, is there any package or bunch of packages that are used for testing installation?  For example, after following the thread about thunar, I'm curious to play around and experiment with dpkg diversions. So instead of uninstalling and reinstalling real in use packages that I have, or arbitrarily downloading a random package, is there anything in Debian's suite that is made just for this? Like a package that contains just dummy data, and and installs like a normal package but doesn't actually do anything?  I haven't heard of anything like this existing, but a sort of "test" package would be nice. Something benign that doesn't come with a bunch of dependencies etc... If anyone knows anything of the sort, I'd greatly appreciate it! I'd love to run some bash scripting-foo against something like that...

apt-get has a simulate option - you can read about what it does in the man page to see if that is what you're looking to do.

That's what I'd do. Just pick something small and harmless. I don't know of any "test" packages.
