1. You got rid of the error and the background works. That's a step in the right direction.

2. Everything looks good, the line:

${lua conky_draw_bg 10 0 0 0 0 0x000000 0.2}\

should be showing 10 pixel rounded corners with a shade set at 0.2

Try this ... in the other conky you have there - the system conky

lua_load = '/home/unklarer/LUA/draw-bg.lua',
lua_draw_hook_pre = 'draw_bg 25 0 0 0 0 0x000000 0.5',
};

conky.text = [[

Not knowing how conky v1.10 works it might be something like this:

lua_draw_hook_pre draw_bg = '25 0 0 0 0 0x000000 0.5',

although I don't think so.... test differnt ways.

I did spend hours testing. I also once again moved from the laptop to the desktop because there is running in siduction the compositor in the background ...

And no errors. Here is a depends list for conky-all v1.90. Check v1.10 and see it there is something in v1.9 that isn't in v1.10. If there is something different - add it to see if that helps.

We know the LUA script works in v1.90 so something changed in v1.10 - my first thought is maybe: liblua5.1-0

Which is interesting, it is NOT installed here. I have liblua5.2 installed. So maybe the depends is v5.1 (or greater)

Errors relating to the syntax

conky: Assuming it's in old syntax and attempting conversion.
conky: [string "..."]:138: attempt to index local 'settings' (a nil value)

the concerning

lua_draw_hook_pre draw_bg = "25 0 0 0 0 0x000000 0.5"

it does not work

lua_draw_hook_pre = "draw_bg 25 0 0 0 0 0x000000 0.5"

it's OK..

Xing fingers. My mistake was giving you three lines that all ended in \ making them only one line with nothing under it.

I see you have the proper lua stuff installed too.
This might be another problem with conky v1.10

Now try this:

... you should get a light blue circle.

EDIT:

NOTE: by using both lines above TEXT it will darken the images in a conky as it draws the background OVER the images, not under them.
