This has happened a couple of times now, but I can still move the mouse and use Ctrl+Alt+F1 to get to a terminal and work from there so at least I know the whole computer's not frozen. If the desktop freezes like this, where I can no longer interact with windows, Tint2, open the menu with right-click or Super+Space, is there a way I can recover it without a reboot? I've tried killing off OpenBox from htop and starting it again in a terminal session but I get the error:
Failed to open the display from the DISPLAY environment variable.
Cheers!

In TTY1, you can restart the desktop session with
sudo systemctl restart lightdm.service

Next time that happens, drop to a TTY & `pkill compton`

I did eventually find this one, but it kills all running apps too - something I was hoping to avoid. No biggie on this occasion.

I'll give it a go, cheers!
