GRUB and 30_otheros

When did the installer start creating a `30_otheros` in `/etc/grub.d/`? That is a new one for me. It messed things up when doing a `grub-install /dev/sdx && update-grub` after the partition UUIDs had changed, after a new install in another partition.

I kept finding that I couldn't boot a new installation, until I found the offending wrong UUIDs in `30_otheros`. It worked OK after editing, but now I have removed the executable bit.

Re: GRUB and 30_otheros

I can see /etc/grub.d/{30_os-prober,30_uefi-firmware} but no "30_otheros" in my relatively fresh rc2-2 installation.

Is there any possibility one of your sxmi scripts could have added this file without your knowledge?

Re: GRUB and 30_otheros

No smxi on this machine. A long-time updated BL on /dev/sda2, multiple BL installs on /dev/sda1 for testing (currently the latest RC2). It started a couple of installs ago, so I was wondering if there has been an update of something upstream recently.

Re: GRUB and 30_otheros

My Debian jessie system doesn't have GRUB installed on it.

I have just installed both grub-pc and grub-efi and neither created 30_otheros under /etc/grub.d, just the files listed in my other post.

Re: GRUB and 30_otheros

`30_otheros` (on /dev/sda2) has several entries, all starting with...

# This entry automatically added by the Debian installer for an existing
# linux installation on /dev/sda1.
etc etc

So it is the installer which creates it during the grub install part of the installation. I have never noticed it before, until very recently.

Ah yes, that could be it.

My jessie system was installed with debootstrap(8) and no bootloader was used.

Did you use the "unofficial" ISO image with the non-free firmware included?
Like, duh!  ops

Can't remember if it was that - I probably added the firmware during the installation. It was a few months ago!

Re: GRUB and 30_otheros

I don't know when it got in there for me either. But for tweakos I solve it in my preseed-hack file for D-I:

if [ -f /etc/grub.d/30_otheros ]; then
rm -f /etc/grub.d/30_otheros
fi
