backport tint2?

The current "stable" tint2 does have some freezing issues, and ppk has reported that compiling and installing 0.12.7 went smoothly: https://forums.bunsenlabs.org/viewtopic … 449#p20449

Is there a case for putting 0.12.7 in our backports repo?

^ Yes.
Leave it as is for now.
Let the brave (including the devs) install  the newest version and test it thoroughly first.

Re: backport tint2?

I have been running 0.12-git-dirty for quite some time now. I have the config for it as well. It is pretty stock BL atm. I have just changed it to support multiple monitors and have changed the launchers so they darken on mouse-over.
Here it is if you are interested:

Re: backport tint2?

What freezing issues?  I've not experienced any.

Edit:  I just remembered...wasn't this an issue with the launcher in the beginning of BL?  I don't use the launcher (commented out), so that's probably why I don't experience freezing issues.

Re: backport tint2?

There was a race in a signal handler in the startup notification code used in the launcher. Under certain conditions the panel would freeze.

Here's the changelog. The jump from 0.11 to 0.12.7 would introduce a whole slew features but also behaviour changes for some options. One would need to review the current BL configuration carefully and possibly port things.

Your saying we can add the backport to our repo but can't predict how it will behave with our custom configs? Is it easily backported using our forum HowTo? In that case, I agree with xaos, those experimenting with it can open a thread and post their results.

I don't care what you do at home. Would you care to explain?

Re: backport tint2?

Well, I'm using tint2 v 0.12.7-2. Not with Bunsen, but with the sid-version of tweakos, and I can't see why there should be any problems using it with Bunsen. Obviously that's a full blown sid-install, but all my configs are the same. So I can't see why you should not add it to the backports, because even if the backports are enabled, the system should be set up in a way where you don't install a package from backports, unless you explisitly tell it to. So only the ones wanting the new Tint2, should get it.

That's what I was tentatively suggesting - to put a compiled 0.12.7 in the backports for those who want to try it, not to install it by default.

Re: backport tint2?

I think putting it in the backports would be a good idea. But there is some personal laziness in my supporting this option.
