So for those who came late to the party, this was a regression, but it's patched already?

Pretty much - and the patch has been patched a couple of times while investigated the problem!

Re: Installation script of i386 live ISO fails to install Debian backports

It's been fixed in bunsen-welcome 8.8-1 which is now on GitHub and, when nobody has a moment left over from keeping the server online, in the BL repos for upgrading.

Unfortunately, this particular issue seems to be caused by changes in the bunsen-welcome files during an upgrade - some variable names change, and are set in different files. If the upgrade occurs while bl-welcome itself is running - which will usually be the case with new installs - then the damage is done, so just having the new version in the repos doesn't solve the issue.

8.8-1 tests if bunsen-welcome is upgraded at the apt-upgrade stage of the script, and restarts if it is. When the next iso goes out with 8.8-1 on board then it will be OK, but till then there are some workarounds:

In a new installation:
exit bl-welcome when it pops up, do

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

and then run bl-welcome from a terminal.

If the damage has already been done:
*) Delete /etc/apt/sources.list.d/debian-jessie-backports.list and then run bl-welcome.
or
*) Edit /etc/apt/sources.list.d/debian-jessie-backports.list to hold this line

deb http://httpredir.debian.org/debian jessie-backports main contrib non-free

then run bl-welcome.
or
*) When the apt-update phase of bl-welcome reports an error, hit 'd' for details then 'c' to continue anyway. Likewise on the apt-upgrade page. Choose 'N' for all the other options, except for adding the Debian Backports. That should go successfully. Continue choosing 'N' till the end, and maybe run bl-welcome once more to check that things are now OK.

Take your pick, and apologies for the inconvenience.

Re: Installation script of i386 live ISO fails to install Debian backports

I know it's a bad thing, but I'm sort of glad this is happening "in real time" so I can see the process of a bug like this being recognized, patched, and rolled out...
