[CLOSED] Feedback from BL RC2 64bit.
Few things to think about;
1) When you want to open a text file by right clicking, it offers to open it with BL Text Editor and Geany - both are same.
2) Same with music files, it is either BL Media Player or VLC Media Player - both are same.
3) X Web Browser, Web Browser are the same,
4) BL Image Viewer and Mirage are the same,
Few useful apps are installed, but the default menu doesn't show them; Mail Reader, Gdebi Package installer, Root Terminal, Removable Drives & Media, Panel Tint2 (Tint2 panel settings).
@johnraff
If Synaptic Package Manager is installed, does offering to install some apps through pipe-menus has any real value as Synaptic offers to install any app in the repos, whatever the repos?
Edit: There is also a mistake in the menu.xml (at least in the 64bit)--what's supposed to be written at the bottom is at the top.

Feedback from BL RC2 64bit.....

.....
We don't the want main menu to become too heavy, since users can configure it how they like.
Gdebi opens in context : r-click a .deb;
Drives and media should appear in the file manager - do they need to be in the menu as well?;
Root editor and file manager are in the "System" submenu, maybe root terminal could be added;
Tint2 panel settings are in "Preferences -> Tint2", maybe tint2conf could be added (is it fixed now?).
Edit: There is also a mistake in the menu.xml (at least in the 64bit)--what's supposed to be written at the bottom is at the top.
If you are referring to "exit-menu" it doesn't matter - it appears at the bottom of the menu if uncommented

^ What I meant was those apps are already installed. The app maintainer had put the categories in the .desktop file in /usr/share/applications. Some are Xfce apps, some are gnome apps.

I know they are already installed and have .desktop files. The basic Openbox menu doesn't use them, so it is the devs/users choice what goes in it.....and long may that last, IMO. You can set up an auto-updating menu if you want.

In all these cases, for the default install, the eg BL Media Player and VLC Media Player are indeed the same. "BL Media Player" is an alias for whatever media player the user has set as default. The advantage of choosing "BL Media Player" is that if in the future the user uninstalls VLC and installs eg SMplayer then SMplayer will become "BL Media Player" and files will now be opened in SMplayer without having to make any config changes.
The same applies to the other BL... apps, and any other Debian alternatives like x-www-browser.
There's some help for "Bunsen Alternatives" in the "system" sub-menu.

^IMO, this was a great decision on johnraff's part. +1000 mega-powerup.
No, he can't sleep on the floor. What do you think I'm yelling for?!!!

Yep. I love the extended alternatives system. It is also extensible, which is great because it gives us the ability to tinker in alternatives that would have been impossible for the devs to dream up at the time the code was written.

No, there is a scrot of it.
You should post a HowTo in Scripts and Tutorials that details what you did so a n00b can follow it, that would truly be helpful.

It is here; http://rmoe.anukis.de/obamenu.html
Everything is explained quite well there. Some info on how not to have icons is here; https://forums.bunsenlabs.org/viewtopic … 2268#p2268

Obamenu is light and simple, does the job.

^ Obamenu would show htop, but when you try to run it, it'd say xfce4-terminal is not installed. Terminator appears to be alien to the system.

Some feedback;
open@open:~$ sudo su
sudo: unable to resolve host open
[sudo] password for open:
open is not in the sudoers file. This incident will be reported.
open@open:~$ su
Password:
root@open:/home/open#
Personally, I don't mind not having sudo, su is quite enough for me.

Fortunately BL includes `sudo`, so what did you do to it?

^Nothing. I'm not in the sudoers file. I can put myself there, but su is quite alright for me.

The user won't be in `/etc/sudoers`, but group `sudo` should be - and $USER should be automatically added to the `sudo` group when the account is created.
Have you done a vanilla BL installation?

Presumably no. A scrot doesn't explain what you have done.

What I did was written above the scrot.
I got this problem solved.
sudo gpasswd -a $USER sudo
Then, checked in /etc/hosts. Nothing was there. So, added,
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
127.0.1.1 open
and logged out and logged in. All's well.
