Hi everyone,
I'm a professional (non-tech) writer who blogs about his Linux/FOSS experiences. Today I posted my review of BunsenLabs. As a former CrunchBang user, I was thrilled to see a continuation of the project. Feel free to send me any comments or corrections.
To be fair, running a Live session can't be considered a "deep" look at BL. The post-install script can do a lot of configuration and tweaks, which you won't see without installing.
"There is also no menu option to install LibreOffice Calc or any other office program."
Actually, there is: "Menu -> Office -> Libreoffice -> Install -> lots of stuff"

OFF TOPIC!
I see no reference to British tea time, and I have no idea what time that is. GMT or UTC as it is referred to today is not a 24 hour clock - it's time can be expressed as 24 or 12 hour format.
I think oswriter, as a professional writer, meant exactly what s/he said:
The system clock is set to universal (Greenwich) time.
and as a second thought, maybe I was wrong, maybe, oswriter is telling us the test system is set to UTC ... that would explain why 00:59 shows up in two places when:
tint2 (to the best of my knowledge - unless there was a change I don't have) doesn't use:
time(X)_timezone
but the conky does use:
${utime %H:%M}

@oswriter: you mentioned that you were suffering from graphical artefacts in your AMD system due to the older kernel version.
The amdgpu driver that you need was mainlined into Linux kernel 4.2
Kernel 4.3 is available from the jessie-backports repository and is easily installable in BL

In my own experience installing BL the second time around (about 9 days ago), I experienced no clock time that made *any* sense playing with the "Live" version until I told it to find any WiFi connections it might see (where I was anxiously holding my breath....). But as I recall, the "silly" time that was expressed there was indeed expressed in UTC (All Hail John Harrison!) in the thingy there. However, it seemed that in the actually step-wise graphical install, it was kind enough to ask me what zone I wanted to feel the Linux in.
Anyway, sorry.

This is true for the live environment, assuming your system clock is set to UTC. IIRC, this was also true for the CrunchBang Live sessions.
It may be possible to have a tiny shell script called at startup that peeks at your IP address, makes a reasonable guess at your time zone, and executes a dpkg-reconfigure tzdata...but this would throw off the displayed time in the other direction if your system clock is set to local time.
EDIT: This is why the Debian installer asks if your system clock is set to local time or UTC.

I thank everyone for the comments. For the record, the clock thing was not a nitpick, just an observation. I normally would not have said anything about UTC except I remember when I ran Fedora live the other day I happened to notice it displayed my local time.
As for the headline on the post, I'll concede it's hyperbole. I'm a professional blogger. Trust me, it wasn't the most misleading headline I wrote this week, or even yesterday. :-)
@Head_on_a_Stick I actually did try an update to Kernel 4.2 when I installed Debian on this same laptop a couple weeks ago. I still had display issues, which didn't fully go away until I installed the proprietary driver, which I found was much easier to do in Ubuntu MATE, which is what I'm using right now on this machine. I'm still considering BunsenLabs for my other laptop, which is a few years older and has never had any display issues with Debian and the open source driver.

^ Are you sure the tint2 clock is set to UTC or is your system time set to UTC.
In LIVE mode the time gets displayed as UTC, the clock gets configured to local time automatically during installation (in the next ISO, manually in the present one).

This is a beautifully presented review on a beautifully designed webpage. You are a person of taste, and on behalf of the BL Team, I salute you!
Two points...
1) The 4.x kernels are available via the official Debian jessie-backports repository...
https://packages.debian.org/jessie-backports/kernel/
http://backports.debian.org/
2) Our next ISO, rc2, will be out within a week or two. Some changes have been made to items you mentioned (flash install will be absent from the LIVE ISO but is offered through bl-welcome, our post-install first-run script, the rest of libreoffice is installable via the root menu).
@twoion, please add the link to bunsenlabs.org/news if you see fit, thanks!

If that's anything like the Linux Journal then I guess we can say BL has been featured in an extremist publication.

MX Linux & Bunsenlab (sic, they get it right the second time): Stabil, leichtgewichtig und schnörkellos.
Had to look schnörkellos up, it means straightforward/without frills.

OK so what is the Official name here?
bunsenlabs <- top of forum page, and website
Bunsenlabs <- as a lot of people call it.
BunsenLabs <- as I've always called it that matchs the CB in CrunchBang.

@Sector11, BunsenLabs and bunsenlabs are both "Official" (BL and bl as well). Bunsenlabs is fine because we're not strict!

^ Not much of a review but "a tinkerer’s dream" was a nice touch.
Although all linux distros really can be tweaked as far as one would like, it seems like #! and now BL were designed with that in mind, so the comment is apropriate.

Actually, when you consider the number of distros out there, that fact that BunsenLabs is mentioned as "one of the five you should know" is great in itself.
And yes, "a tinkerer’s dream" is a nice touch indeed.
