I think hhh is referring to your status bar; I think the default font in i3 is fixed-12.

You can change that in the i3 config file pretty easy - you can set the global default, or set a font for just the status bar

i3 uses pango to support FreeType fonts.

@lowrider, maybe it's because of jpg compression or maybe your fonts.conf needs tweaking, but all the fonts in your scrot look slightly out of focus to me.
