As for time spent doing my job, I would say it's divided into
25% field work (getting samples from lakes),
30% lab experiments and sample analyses
45% office work (data analysis, statistics, writing, publishing, conferences, meetings etc...)

that sounds like good work.
and the desk/computer/outside/elsewhere relation seems pretty good to me! lucky you!

Re: What's your day job?

I'm currently under-employed doing scut work and some IT admin at a graphics design and print shop. I am also finishing up an associates degree at our local junior college (computer networks). I have one math class to complete in the spring/'16.

I have been hopping back and forth from Windows to Linux for a few years. Discovering #! last year (or was it the year before?) while browsing youtube ushered in a more serious approach to Linux.

Distros used:

Red Hat (years ago)
Ubuntu (Unity chased me away)
SolydXk
Linux Mint (what I was using when I found #!)
#!
Bunsenlabs Hydrogen

Re: What's your day job?

Yes, to be upright and breathing is a main priority in retirement. When my wife and I walk our dogs early in the morning, I feel a bit sorry  for the commuters driving past on their way to work. At the same time, I feel relieved that I no longer have to deal with the commute to and from work. The best part is returning back to the house for a leisurely breakfast and smelling the coffee brewing.  smile

Re: What's your day job?

I don't recall if I posted in here or not.

I am a consultant for a small IT management firm whose primary targets are local government, non-profit and medical businesses. I have 2 junior admins I am training. Hopefully soon I can get out of the server room and into sales. I love my job and I love tinkering with stufff as much as the next guy, but man am I getting burnt out.

Re: What's your day job?

Currently unemployed, my last job was working in a call centre booking people on long distance trains. When I started tinkering with Linux I was a night shift taxi driver of almost 14 years. The Free part of FOSS appealed to me initially as I had a Win box that didn't have a legal piece of software on it. So I installed Ubuntu Hardy Heron then made my way through several different varients xfce etc to Fedora back to Ubuntu and then I discovered Crunchbang. Eventually left taxis to work in IT. Currently working through an online Web Dev course while looking for full time work. With any luck I'll finish the course before I get hired and will never have to "work for the man" ever again.

Re: What's your day job?

@g33zr
cool with a bit of luck the 'non-commute' retirement days are coming my way this year...
I will not miss the night shifts (SatComms/DTH TV) in winter.

Was a tad confusing for a moment there when I couldn't see a way to delete my own post. Then I figured mods have to get some perks along with the title :-)

The new Muppets show on ABC is causing a bit of a stir and some backlash from the moral guardians.

You actually get into the place every week?! How do you do that?  yikes  yikes  yikes

When I'm in Berlin, I have no desire to go there. The action is past my bedtime and I hate technomusic.  8o
