This young lady was born and brought up in arctic Siberia, and decided to make a series of short films detailing the life of just one family who live in one of the coldest places in the world.
I've seen a couple of them and I'm left almost speechless with admiration at the family and the problems they (including the 9 year old son) surmount in order to continue living in a village where the temperature often goes below -40^C and even -50^C in winter.
Want some water to drink? No problem, go out and hack off a big block of ice and bring it inside to thaw out. How about a shower? That will take 5 hours of burning logs (all of which you have to cut and bring inside yourself) before the bath house gets warm enough for you to go in. And the young lad does his full share of all of it. ...

^ Oh, that is the shizznit! I tried inspecting and found /images/heroes/ but didn't have the patience to copy the rest. Epic photograph. I especially like the one plastic vine on the wall next to that majestic window view, it really ties the room together.

I thought there was a thread somewhere for handy web services and the like? Couldn't find it, so I'm putting this here:
Test if any site is blocked by the Great Firewall of China in real time.

Just tested it and it seems the test is a little shaky. Re-testing the same URL yields different results.
But then my experience of traveling to China is that the Great Firewall is also inconsistent.
