Terminator - lost tranparency with Debian 13

Anyone know how to get transparency back in Terminator on Debian 13 (Beardog)?
Talked to Unkl GUGL and nada! As useless as Windows on an igloo.

Try stripping out everything else and building it back up. I'm thinking start by commenting out "background color offset " and "palette", or else just use xfce4-terminal and set opacity in it's preferences (screw manual configs!).

-edit- Wait, it's been an age and half since I've used Terminator, but doesn't it have it's own Prerefences GUI?

Profiles>Background>?

If so, I'd backup your config and delete the original, then set everything from the GUI.

I now have 5 config files  right from righ click preferences.

still not transparent.  It was in Debian 12, not in 13
Maybe picom?

Maybe picom?

yep, you probably need an active compositor to enable transparency in terminator

I changed this removing the commented out parts for class_g:

uncommented the popup_menu part and made it 100

But now I see
