No terminal emulators working in bl - shell?

Hi all

After a reboot, I'm finding that when I run any terminal emulator, it opens and exits again immediately. I've tried terminator, xterm, gnome-terminal, Eterm, lxterminal and a few others and it happens on all of them.

Other than that, Openbox is working fine. However, if I open another tty and try to login, it logs me in and straight out again (and clears the screen, so I can't read any error messages) - I assume this is the same problem.

It looks like a shell problem, but I've no idea where to start looking!

Hope somebody can help.

I installed sftp. Nothing else.

And it stayed like that after several reboots, but after another, it's all working again, so panic over.

I'd still be interested to know what was wrong if anybody has any ideas!

Sounds like you had something in your shell profile.

As it also happened when you switched to TTY, I would presume it was in ~/.bash_profile or /etc/profile

EDIT: or ~/.profile
