Re: 2026 Screenshot Thread

I've discovered Noctalia shell and its greetd greeter and was intrigued, so I installed sid to metal and built deb packages of xwayland-satellite and niri (surprisingly simple thanks to cargo-deb!) and got everything running in an afternoon, then broke it some, then figured it out more and... consider my flabbers gasted. There were several points during the setup where I was just staring at the screen with my mouth open in awe. It's all unified, it has it's own GUI settings, wallpaper picker, notifications, widgets, bars, type-to-search app launcher, its own polkit, and it can theme itself based on the wallpaper...

I actually kept a few notes, if anyone is interested I'll start a thread.

-edit- I almost forgot, I also did a quick labwc setup using lab's defaults. No theming, Noctalia is auto-theming based on the wall. Not the best theme, but way better than the default. I just created the default labwc configs, integrated the few noctalia configs into them, checked for errors and logged in.

Oh, yes, please!  wink

I already have a prepared Trixi installation and originally wanted to install my beloved 'niri' on it. After installing 'QuickShell', I realized that Debian doesn't currently have a niri package...  sad  big_smile  and, I didn't have the time/desire to build it.
