Re: What are you listening to right now?

Speaking of Pete Townshend, my favorite solo effort from him is "White City" - a very timely release addressing Apartheid in South Africa.

Got the chance to see the Who in concert many years back - absolutely magical.

Nobody, and I mean nobody but me ever speaks about Pete Townshend here, and I don't mean that as insulting. He's just... forgotten. The biggest response on a Pete post was for Slipkid a year ago, I remember @PackRat commented.

I've said it before, my favorite songwriter/musician. In your face, Lennon-McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Sting and Joni Mitchell!

As a matter of fact, the last mention of Pete was by me on August 1st. Verdict, you used a clumsy segue for no reason, get it together.

Well friend, being raised on the Beatles, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Jimi Hendrix and a whole host of others (and being a bit of a musician myself), I certainly do appreciate talent - actual talent, that is.
So when I see someone else commenting on a very powerful influence and IMO a musical genius, it definitely lands - and makes me smile.  smile
And speaking of Jimi, my favorite from him and The Experience probably has to be "Axis: Bold As Love"   That album just rox.

^ Electric Ladyland for me, a humble effort.

I'm paraphrasing, but there's footage of a Pete interview where he says something like "Jimi, Keith, Janice, Jim... dead. These were my friends, man!

That falsetto in Empty Glass is up their on my list of haunting music.

A favorite of mine, I think Pete is afraid.

Same album (Psychoderelict [Music Only, 1993]), Now and Then

I don't think Pete's singing gets enough praise, he sounds awesome.

When I was in college, I listened to Tommy and Quadrophenia over and over. Later, I loved The Who by Numbers. One of my favorite songs, still, is Squeezebox. It is just fun!

Pete Townshend - Now and Then (1993)

The Secret Policeman's Ball (1979)

Pete is nervous, he drinks a fifth of brandy in the greenroom, then comes out and performs an acoustic set...

The story is that there are a couple of edits in there where Pete passed out, was woken up and kept playing. I don't know, I wasn't there. But Pete can play guitar.
