You jinxed it mate.

Game was won and lost by the substitutions. England were too negative after taking the lead. They to bunker down whilst Scaloni brought on the cavalry. Argentina have, in terms of age, the most geriatric squad in the World Cup and struggle against runners. Tuchel should've tried to exploit that by bringing in Rashford (and Saka or Watkins) earlier to relieve pressure. Instead he brought on Dan 'Measuring Stick' Burn and Ivan Cartooney.

It made Argentina's job much easier. They just needed to shapeshift to accomodate the whims of one player. Sure, that one player being a level 999 sorcerer (his right foot ain't bad either) helps, but he was given way too much space and time to spellcraft in the second half.

Also find it hilarious that the BBC commentator (yes, I live in Glasgow and have a TV license, I swear) described the first half as "nasty". Has he not watched Conmebol? This was cotton soft compared to the Copa America final in the US a couple of years ago, and even that was fairly mild compared to the 90 minute bloodbath at The Maracana in the Copa final prior to that.

ME!  I couldn't make a goal if it was the size of a barn door and I was 3 meters away! I had nothing to do with it.

I do like Messi though, always liked The Pulga.

Either way it will be a Spanish speaking team that wins the Cup.
Of course I'm hoping it comes to Argentina.

VAMOS ARGENTINA!!

England were cheated out of a first final appearance in 60 years...

By themselves.

@Sector11, I think Argentina is the most hated team at this point. Piss poor sportsmanship. Go España.

Norway should still be in it, that failed goal was a disgrace to team sport. You know it's true, Brits, ego won you that game.

This is interesting:

local source wrote:

Ten players from Atlético (Madrid) will play in the final.
Six players from the Madrid club are in the Argentina national team, while four will play for Spain.
It was similar the previous two times (2018, 2022), but the number of players was smaller (4 players).

Atlético (Madrid) is a great team, but this really deserves respect.

I'm not going to argue the point here in the forums.  I'm of a mind that Messi should have had a red card in the first game. Later someone else got one for doing the same thing.

The England - Argentina game I couldn't help but go "WTF!" a few time when an Argentine player fouled a English player.  Argentina's foul count far surpassed the the English count.  I was hoping for England to win, but couldn't let my wife know that.  Now I want to see Spain win.

A HEADLINE:
"Argentina tie World Cup mark for most fouls in opening 10 minutes vs. England"

Also: IMHO:  FIFA with Gianni Infantino is a TOTAL F'dUp disaster!

Bad blood between Argentina and England since 1982 and it pours over into all aspests of contact.

I'll be glad when World Cup 2026 is over.

EDIT:  I had to run and do the dishes.  Norway won my heart.  I agree that goal should have stood.  Something dirty in FIFA for sure.  I'd be happier than a pig in {koff koff} if Norway was where Argentina is right now.  Again, something I cannot say at home, I'd be dead!

Re: World Cup Football | El Copa Mundial de Fútbol 2026

The England - Argentina match carried too much history. Both teams wanted to win so badly. So I can understand the physical level. The England team was a little inexperienced. After the hydration break, Argentina suddenly switched their attack from center to the wings, England failed to answer.

The Norway fans and team Cape Verde have won my heart in this World Cup.

Spain will win it all.
