Re: What are you watching right now?

Bird watching.

Cardinals, bluejays, robins sharing space with downy, red-bellied, and red-headed woodpeckers today.

Eastern bluebirds will be out later.

No sign of our resident Cooper's hawk.

Re: What are you watching right now?

Godzilla vs Destoroyah (1995, in Japanese)...

https://therokuchannel.roku.com/watch/b … c07b4aecc2

Too long, didn't watch (spoilers); Godzilla is about to go Chernobyl, full meltdown destroying the earth, his nuclear reactor heart is on the fritz. Baby Godzilla, "the little one", is also alive but is an adult. Destoroyah is an ancient microbe that suddenly and mysteriously wipes out a bunch of fish in the Tokyo Aquarium and this young professor's experiments with micro-oxygen help discover it or something, then the microbes become monsters and then they finally join to form Destoroyah. Bitchy reporter, her brother is the prodigy Godzilla expert, bewildered and flustered military and government leaders, a massive super jet firing freezing waves and missiles, Godzilla dies, the little one lives nad absorbs some of the radioactivity to become a fully adult Godzilla, Earth survives, cue the tragic Ifukube score (seriously, just watch a bit starting 7 and a half minutes from the end, it's remarkable).

-edit- I don't get it, they were sued for plagiarism? The basic premise has been used a hundred times, it's 'The Most Dangerous Game' by Richard Connell, published in 1924.

Re: What are you watching right now?

I like the trailer, I like Hillary Swank. See my edit above regarding the story.

The Most Dangerous Game enters the Public Domain, 2020. The Hunt releases, 2020. Hmm.

Hang on we may have had a cross over, probably a region thing.

I've been watching this, no Hillary Swank, it's a French TV series.

Re: What are you watching right now?

Hmmm... Does Pinhead speak French, or does it not matter in Hell?

Draagonslayer (1981)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMSyais7qho

An amazing fantasy film by Disney and Paramount, except for the cast, plot, script, most of the music... the pacing, oh my, the pacing. Cinematography and special effects are on point, though. Did I mention the lead actor, Peter MacNicol? Not his best work. A followup to the also disastrous Popeye but much more star-powered film (Robin Williams, Shelley Duvall) from the same studio partnership.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragonslayer_(1981_film)

Put your stupid cap on and watch this movie, it's great. A major influence on Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings", I'm guessing. Ian McDiarmid gets fried by dragon breath, but somehow he returned (in other films by other hack directors).

Re: What are you watching right now?

Currently half way through season 2 of Twin Peaks, which is available on free streaming where I live. While I've always been aware of the existence of Twin Peaks, and I've seen almost all David Lynch's films, I had never seen it until now. Very enjoyable.

But not Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me? It's my favorite Lynch film. I continue to avoid the series, I love the movie so much. I know I should watch it, but... no. A traumatic psychological horror with a healthy dose of absurdism, but like half the level of Blue Velvet.

This scene creates so much horror with a house, a ceiling fan, a door, a guy, some endoscopy and a little eerie music...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zAGh_Fl4cMw

And the next bit is even more horrifying and it's just a different guy walking out of the house (and Laura's reaction). All the comedy and the over-the-top finish doesn't stop it from being a really dark film. Opening scene, smash that cathode ray tube!
