Bunsenlabs: a dive into the gnu-linux past…

Those who have been trying the beauty of Linux and systems free from the overwhelming power of Microsoft for a few years now will have to have known the distribution #!Crunchbang: based on the linux distro par excellence Debian, was a mixture of elegant minimalism and speed being very light (used Openbox).
The distro, with the evolution of Linux, was finished in 2015, but a group of enthusiasts brought it back to life under the name Bunsenlabs.

And I've gone back to that graceful minimalism of terminal, scripts and speed. Dark themes and elegance.
For those who use and recover old pcs, a godsend since it has very low installation and use requirements (1 or 2 gigs of Ram) and being in fact a Debian, has a wide range of possibilities for use. And wide compatibility with old hardware.

But let's go into detail.

Let’s say right away that the installation requires a minimum of knowledge of linux and its operation and that in fact it is not a "derivative" distribution, but actually a Debian, with custom scripts and themes.

"Deployment consists of configuration packages and resources installed in Debian. There is no change in the way the Debian basic system is administered.
Window management with Openbox pre-configured with tint2 panel, xfce4-panel, conky system monitor and jgmenu, with a feature-rich desktop menu.
Various configuration and application utilities to maintain this system.
Additional desktop, multimedia and hardware packages pre-installed to deliver an enhanced out-of-the-box experience.
There is no limit to customization: you can review the desktop and its configuration through our forum…"

In other words, a shared distribution, where users share scripts and ideas in the community spirit of the Gnu-Linux philosophy.

It must be said that, as in my case, those who prefer a different init system instead of the ubiquitous system, can simply vary the installation base: instead of the Debian netinstall, that of Devuan. Everything will work and be compatible and for this we should thank the developers.

The installation I recommend (but there is also a live iso to try it and eventually install it from there…) is to download the minimal netinstall of Debian, or rather Devuan, finish the basic installation and then through a simple script finish the procedure.
The script gives you the ability to install it in three versions: lite, base and full. The base is a good compromise to then install through the powerful Debian apt, whatever program you can serve.
The Debian repositories, which we remember is the basis of widely used distributions such as Ubuntu or Linux Mint, contain an infinite number of programs for each use. And also drivers for most of the software and hardware around.

When you're done, restarting your system will give you a working Bunselabs ready to use.

Try it, you will be fascinated…

I don't care what you do at home. Would you care to explain?
