[Carbon RC2] screen lock bug

I installed prior to RC2 but I assume that as long as I have been keeping everything up-to-date that it is equivalent to RC2.  In any case, on an old Dell Latitude E6530, I'm getting the following error/warning.

Re: [Carbon RC2] screen lock bug

^The image didn't display but I found the post BB code was a bit off and edited it.

What did you do to attempt to lock the screen? I'll try to reproduce the error here.

It's difficult to emulate this on a VM because 'systemctl suspend' just makes the screen go black, with no way out except rebooting.

I plan to install RC3 onto bare metal soon, so I'll see if I can reproduce the issue.

Screenlocking itself seems to work OK on a VM though.

Has anyone else had suspend/locking issues with the Carbon isos?

Re: [Carbon RC2] screen lock bug

On the system settings for the power manager, I ticked the box "Lock screen when system is going to sleep".  The laptop has no problem suspending.  The problem is that when I come out of suspend, it gives the message (the screenshot/error-window I posted) "None of the screen lock tools ran successfully, the screen will not be locked. Do you still want to continue to suspend the system?"  The answer of course is "no" because it just came out of suspend.

Tested on my laptop which is an oldish hp255 G4.  Worked as it should no messages.

Re: [Carbon RC2] screen lock bug

Ok, it seems to happen when the Power Manager times out.  It is set to suspend after 15 minutes idle.  It came back up successfully screen locked but with the above error message.  But when suspend gets activated by shutting the lid, all goes according to plan.  The system gets suspended and the screen lock is activated.

So you're saying that the screen locking is successful, but there is an incorrect error message?

Re: [Carbon RC2] screen lock bug

It appears that I was mistaken.  When the laptop is idle and suspend is supposed to be activated, it fails with the *correct* error message.  I also tried with the Carbon RC3 live image and I get the same error message.

Re: [Carbon RC2] screen lock bug

Sorry I don't quite understand. What exactly happens when the 15m idle time is reached?

Re: [Carbon RC2] screen lock bug

The screen locks but the laptop fails to suspend.  I have enabled suspend in xfce4-power-manager.

Re: [Carbon RC2] screen lock bug

^But the displayed message says that the screen has not been locked? If you click the "Yes" button, does it then suspend?

Re: [Carbon RC2] screen lock bug

I set suspend/lock at 1 minute and after a minute, the error popped up and the screen neither blanked nor locked.  After another minute, the screen did blank and lock but it still did not suspend.  When I respond "yes", it did suspend.  All this had been obscured because I left the machine idle and came back later so presumably, the first try at locking was unobserved.

Could it be that the "screen lock tools" did not have enough time on the first try but did on the second?  But then why not suspend on the second try?

Re: [Carbon RC2] screen lock bug

If I untick "Lock screen when system is going to sleep" then the system suspends.

Re: [Carbon RC2] screen lock bug

^In that case is the screen locked? I guess not.

In order to try to reproduce your issue I'll have to do a bare metal install, because suspend doesn't work on Virtual Machines.
I've been planning to install Carbon on my main machine anyway, but various other commitments are holding that task up.

Re: [Carbon RC2] screen lock bug

By The Way, has anybody else run into suspend/locking issues on Carbon?
@dbvolvox reported no problems, so it might be hardware related.
