I do slither.io from time to time, using this script as launcher
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/bront … slitherRun
to gain slight competetive edge on slow machine.

whatis Vodavod?

Re: good free games for low end computer

xonotic - quake3 clone, can run on low settings on very old computers very fast

+1. 4G RAM recimmended but it will run on less.

Dota 2. Personally, I found it boring after a couple of hours but it's one of the most popular games for Linux ATM.

Valheim.

Total War: Warhammer 2

Dying Light (Enhanced Edition)

Pillars of Eternity.

Re: good free games for low end computer

What happened to this game? Official package on Debian, no, flatpak on debian, nope? Snap? Yes but the performance is unusable...

Nexuiz used to fly on my crappy old eMachine, what happened?

Re: good free games for low end computer

Well, I didn't have OpenGL working right. A new xorg for my 340 legacy Nvidia driver and I can run SuperTuxKart, woohoo!

You need to use the autobuild from here: https://beta.xonotic.org/autobuild/ because there hasn't been a release in ages. You also need to tune down dynamic lightning and textures.

All the links are 404. This looks promising though, using the official torrent and then the provided autobuild script. I'm downloading the torrent now...

https://gitlab.com/xonotic/xonotic/-/wikis/Autobuilds

-edit- Great, with OpenGL working, the Official xonotic-linux64-glx executable runs perfectly! I'll try the autobuild later.

Re: good free games for low end computer

I know I'm resurrecting an old thread, but I've had scummvm and point and click adventures like beneath a steel sky and lure of the temptress running an old netbook with 2gb and an intel atom N455 processor.

Also openTTD is cool!
And hedgewars.

All should be available in official repositories.

Re: good free games for low end computer

There are a bunch of Steam Linux games that will run on old hardware...

https://store.steampowered.com/curator/ … pec-Games/

I was just playing one not on this list, but I wiped that partition yesterday.

Albion, recommended specs

OS: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS 64 bit or SteamOS (other distributions may work, but are not officially supported)
        Processor: Intel/AMD CPU with SSE2
        Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: Graphics card with OpenGL 3.3 support or better
        Network: Broadband Internet connection
        Sound Card: SDL2: libsdl2-2.0-0

    Recommended:
OS: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS 64 bit or SteamOS (other distributions may work, but are not officially supported)
        Processor: Intel/AMD CPU with SSE2
        Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: Graphics card with OpenGL 3.3 support or better
        Network: Broadband Internet connection
        Storage: 8 GB available space
        Sound Card: SDL2: libsdl2-2.0-0
Additional Notes: For an optimal play experience, we strongly recommend installing Albion Online onto an SSD.

Re: good free games for low end computer

I've been enjoying Battle for Wesnoth, it's in the repo, is very actively developed with a large community of contributors and is very extensible with the ability to create your own maps and scenarios and such.

Runs fine on my 2012 model laptop with it's mighty dual-core APU @ 800 mhz, lol.

Re: good free games for low end computer

What do we consider "low end PC"?

0 A.D. might work, and here's another vote for Xonotic and Nexuiz (although I think support has stopped on at least one of these, unfortunately.)
If you can visit Flathub you might find several games that could work.
Albion online may work as well, although I'll admit I'm definitely not fan of that one.

Re: good free games for low end computer

I gave up pretty quickly. Definitely Nexuiz, that's a fun one.

There was another one with wacky monsters a la Mars Attacks! I can't remember the name. Open Arena?
