I've used linux for many years, since Windows Vista was launched. Then I went away from MS. But it will take me the years I have left to achieve what I've seen so far from what you've got. My technical skills are (as my name states) close2zero

Either Budgie or Cinnamon on trixie has a Compiz plugin, I guess it's time to dive into it.

Compiz was the bomb when people first saw it. We're talking Ubuntu on Windows XP.

^ As far as I remember, Linux Mint Mate had Compiz installed.
In the settings, you just need to choose Compiz instead of Marco.
Linux Mint Cinnamon had several Compiz effects in applets similar to GNOME Shell.
