One Minute To Grub

Is that normal?  Any ideas why it takes so long?  Any suggestions how to shorten the wait?

Do you see the "Grub Starting" / "Welcome to Grub" message first before the minute delay?
Or is it a minute before you see any grub text on the screen?

It's a minute from switching the laptop on and seeing the Grub screen

The Grub starting message appears about a second before actual Grub

For the record, not normal.

ISO glitch? Try downloading/burning a new image to USB and install again, if it's a new install anyway?

My former HP laptop behaved similarly.

The HP logo appears with options to enter BIOS (F9) or change the boot order (F10).
If I remember correctly, I solved it by resetting the BIOS settings to default.

After that, GRUB appeared within a few seconds instead of a long wait.

Managed to get the time between pressing the power button and the Grub menu appearing down to 33 seconds.  Is that normal?

Still sounds like a lot to me. What did you do to reduce it to 33 seconds? Do whatever it was another 50-60%

Can you tell me your exact BIOS settings?  I also set mine to default but still only managed to shave 25 to 30 seconds off.  Even a clean reinstall didn't improve things

Sorry.
I replaced that laptop a long time ago.
Check all settings in BIOS.

We don't know exactly what laptop you have.
Maybe someone here is using the same model and can help.

EDIT
When you reset all BIOS settings to defaults, did you use the Save Changes and Exit  option (or similar)?
Was Windows ever on that machine or is it still there?
If the answer is YES, there is a possibility that this is the reason why the settings in the BIOS have been changed.

i have an HP Elitebook 8460P.  It came with Windows 8 installed but I originally replaced it with Ubuntu Xfce4. The only setting I changed was turning off TPM because the laptop couldn't see the OS with it on
