Re: June 2025 Screenshot Thread

^ Mate forums are a dumpster fire, though. So many threads marked [SOLVED] (-edit- I meant Mint forums) and you look at them and are like "What in the actual f..."

-edit- Lol... https://mate-desktop.org/community/

Type "Wayfire" into the search engine and hit "Enter", nothing happens. Look at the search bar for a button to click and there isn't one.

So go to the Linux Mint Forums link and click that and search Wayfire...

https://forums.linuxmint.com/search.php … ds=wayfire

Epic "too big to fail".

Re: June 2025 Screenshot Thread

^ Looks like a bunch of git pages with install scripts.

Put "wayfire mate desktop on wayland" in your preferred search engine.

Getting there...

https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-wayland-session

But where is their wayfire.ini?

In the build script. Either finds a user's existing script, or copies over the default from installing wayfire:

    #Find any existing wayfire.ini file
    if [ -e "/home/$USER/.config/wayfire.ini" ]; then
#User has configured wayfire, use their file and existing customizations
        cp "/home/$USER/.config/wayfire.ini" "/home/$USER/.config/mate/wayfire.ini"
    else
#User has not configured wayfire. Look for the default .ini file where the package manager put it
        cp /usr/share/doc/wayfire/examples/wayfire.ini "/home/$USER/.config/mate/wayfire.ini"
#Ensure the file is writable as we try to alter it later
        chmod u+w "/home/$USER/.config/mate/wayfire.ini"
#Don't use wobbly windows by default, users can readily enable them with wcm
        sed -i '/ wobbly \\/d' "/home/$USER/.config/mate/wayfire.ini"

I guess the process would be: Install mate, install wayfire and plugins, configure wayfire (optional), run build scripts for wayfire-mate desktop.

Wayfire is far from perfect, and wf-panel even more so, but I'm really liking it. The animations put GNOME and KDE's defaults to shame.

I didn't unsticky May because I realised it was still May for you guys while I was in June smile

Re: June 2025 Screenshot Thread

I have finally bit the bullet and installed on bare metal.

Must I say unpleasant surprise was handling nvidia graphics drivers with Wayland in this Fedora derivate. I didn't expect my choice of hardware 10 years ago would cost me a day of debugging in 2025. I had to document working setup in my dotfiles. Now video reproduction is smooth even in bloody Firefox.

Is that PWA Teams and did you use Chrome or something else to achieve functionality?

Re: June 2025 Screenshot Thread

Back on trixie GNOME Wayland because it's just so freaking stable.

Co0loOJt.jpeg

Anyone know what the GNOME icon of a deer with pixels shooting out of it's antlers is? Because I don't remember that one.

Confused about the ghost in a cloak, lower left of that, as well. And the fish.

Yes, in terms of DEs on Wayland, GNOME is the best. Plasma is great overall, but I don't like its default notifications. The notifications can get quite annoying, sometimes.

Re: June 2025 Screenshot Thread

^ I find the notification system on GNOME to be less than ideal as well. I use Notification Timeout extension to increase the timeout, and there is also an extension that lets you relocate the notification popup, but I don't use it.

@hhh, Font reminds me of The Hitchhiker's Guide or similar Sci-Fi for some reason. p.s. For my terminal book reading I've been using 'EnvyCodeR Nerd Font' lately. https://www.programmingfonts.org/#envy-code-r

Re: June 2025 Screenshot Thread

^ I think because of it's similarities to Futura.

Envy looks nice, too! Also has a late 70s/80s sci-fi look, which I think 2005 Hitchhikers went for, especially the 'A' and '0' (zero). '8" looks a little wonky to me, the top loop larger than the bottom one. big_smile

edit- This site says the title card font for Hitchhiker's is probably based off of this font, created in '77...
