My question is about Bluetooth mostly. It's kind of kinky I think. Unreliable
I get donated/discarded stuff like this thing- JBL Clip 4.
https://support.jbl.com/ca/en/speakers/ … IP+4-.html
I can't get the Bluetooth on a 2008 (17 year old) Compaq HP6910 to even see it.
Maybe speakers only like cellphones?
Perhaps Bluetooth has been "upgraded" since 2008? The Bluetooth on the computer works fine to connect to a phone and hearing aides. But not this speaker. Was able to connect speaker to Android and iPhone.
I have the blueman-manager and all the appropriate packages etc.
I also tried the old way with terminal and $ bluetoothctl.
Dunno. I am not knowledgeable re Bluetooth. Thanks in advance for any stories or experiences about Bluetooth.

I think the word you're looking for is janky. Kinky is a whole other kind of blue.

How compatible are the versions of Bluetooth with each other? 17 years old lamptop would have a pretty early version of Bluetooth.

I had a situation where bluetooth headphones could not connect to 2019 hp laptop (with win 10), but could easily pair to android phone (never took the time to figure out why).

Okay "janky". Thanks! Yes, kinky definitely implies something else! Looked it up.
Bluetooth, who knows. Probably the version is the thing, thanks for that info. I may give the speaker away. With hearing aids, don't actually personally use them. Music is inserted right into my head.

The speaker has Bluetooth 5.1
Some versions of the 6910 laptop are also available without Bluetooth.

The Linux kernel must find the Bluetooth.
The command for this:
dmesg | grep -i bluetooth
If this shows no output, there is only the possibility to check in the BIOS whether bluetooth is present and possibly switched off.
If this is also not the case, then the laptop does not have bluetooth.
