[SOLVED]Debian and rtl8106

Ok, I'm trying to install Jessie on a free partition. At one point, I get a message saying my computer "may need the non-free firmware rtl_nic/rtl8106e-1.fw rt3290.bin" and that I "could get it from a removable media".
So I googled it, and, feeling oh, so smart, downloaded the package realtek_0.43_all.deb, from this site https://packages.debian.org/jessie/kern … re-realtek, and copied it to a thumbdrive.
Then I tried the install again, but I kept on getting the same message, and, when I tried to get the package from the thumbdrive, nothing happened.  sad

What am I doing wrong, and how do I fix it?
Thanks in advance.  smile

Not reading the instructions tongue

See https://www.debian.org/releases/stable/ … 04.html.en

The USB stick must be FAT-formatted and the firmware tar ball or zip file must be placed in either the root directory or in a folder at /firmware/

You can also try this method:
http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=126319

Note that loose files should be used, *not* .debs wink

For a simpler solution, use one of the unofficial ISO images that already have the non-free firmware included:
http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unoff … -firmware/

Have you tried a debian firmware iso? http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unoff … -firmware/

Have you read the Debian documentation?: Loading Missing Firmware
