display port to hdmi - external screen goes off

Hi guys,

I've been trying to look for help in the #bunsenlabs irc room but looks like it's not being visited very often so I'm here.

I am connecting my bunsenlabs laptop to an external screen (LCD TV) via display port -> hdmi and the screen goes off as soon as I open any program window on it. The only profit I have using the external screen is the speakers - I do all the work on another external screen (PC Monitor) connected via VGA port and the display port screen works as my speakers. The laptop lid is closed to prevent the laptop keyboard to be stepped on by my cats.

I am sure the TV screen is fine cuz it worked well with my old laptop connected via hdmi - hdmi ports, so this might be the new laptop display port issue - I have checked it with bunsenlabs and ubuntu mate and both faced the same problem.

Please help!
