Sorry, maybe fontawesome is not correct for generating weather icons. I haven't used weather applet in ages.
I guess noto-fonts-emoji, or something else may help.

I went through Addy (the original author of the script)'s posts. He was definitely using Awesome fonts. So what package am I missing that means mine aren't displaying as symbols?

I did all the above and there's still no icon. Do I need to set an absolute path to the icon theme somewhere?
This is what I'm seeing
You can try using the Debian package for Font Awesome - https://packages.debian.org/bookworm/fonts-font-awesome
You must unlearn what you have learned.

I found a solution that basically involves linking directly to wttr.in
I'd like some more colourful icons, but I'm not really expecting there'll be any. Also, it's a little busy. Ideally I'd like to be able to click on the executor and have an undecorated terminal window with the full forecast pop up and keep the executor simple (just temperature)

Turns out restarting the system solves the icons thing

That stopped working, so I went into the weather script and basically just replaced the unicode symbols with emojis. I suspect the original unicode no longer works.

The code, or icons emoji may be obsolete, it's been a few years since this thread was opened. Look at the Scripts, Tutorials & Tips if you can find anything, or google a bit.
