A long time ago, I set up the Firefox Data Collection and Use section as shown in the picture.
I simply did not allow anything.
Now I see that a new section has been added in FF 128.0:
Website Advertising Preferences.
It's ok that the developers added something, but why is that box checked (by default)?
... It's a new emerging web standard that allows advertisers to understand how effective their ads are without tracking individuals. ...
Thanks, I don't want that:

Looks like I was right.
European non-profit privacy protection organization NOYB (None of Your Business), based in Vienna, has filed a complaint with the Austrian Data Protection Agency (DSB) against Mozilla, alleging that the company uses Firefox's privacy feature, enabled without asking for consent, to track user behavior on network:

If you haven't already, I think you should do what I did two months ago.
Of course, you decide for yourself.

Looks like that setting is not ticked in my FF 128 install. Maybe because I am in the US and that this might be only for EU users?

^ It's possible but I'm not sure.
I don't think Mozilla makes any distinction between users.
The current version of Firefox is 130.0.1 and I don't know if anything has changed.
This should not have happened and the explanation is quite implausible, but the fact is that they were not hiding anything.
They were wrong because the option was on by default.
It’s a shame that an organisation like Mozilla believes that users are too dumb to say yes or no. Users should be able to make a choice and the feature should have been turned off by default.
I use extremely demanding CSS files and after every update I check that everything works as it should.
It didn't take me long to notice this because it doesn't seem logical to me to help websites track better.
Of course, BL forums users were immediately notified (two months ago).

It was on by default on 130.0.1, I ´ll remember to check again after next update if it is turned on again? One never knows, sigh.

^ Don't worry.
I turned it off when it was version 128.0 and now after a few updates everything is fine.
