chromeOS Flex on a USB...
Cons... Slow to boot, nearly as slow to login, can't install the Play Store, can't install the OS because it will wipe the entire drive, doesn't seem to be installable to a VM... it won't boot, huge window decorations (just look at that browser). I have no idea about updates, especially running it from USB.
Pros... cp or dd to a USB creates persistency (my account, passwords, browser history, WiFi connection and desktop settings all are there after a reboot), a pretty taskbar that can be positioned bottom, left or right with no fuss, the quick launchers that are there by default can be unpinned, a nice selection of wallpapers and screensavers, dark theme is an option (or automatic, light for the day and dark for the night), nice slurpy window animations that are not at all sluggish via USB (they're gorgeous), you don't need the Play Store because you can do all of that through Chrome browser anyway, does what I'm asking it to do, which is playing streaming movies online via Xfinity and Paramount+ (shown: The Equalizer), neither of which work on Linux (not supported BS), whatever Intel graphic driver they're using is sublime, audio volume keybinds and touchpad work OOTB, brightness is adjustable via the settings quick-panel (lower-right in the scrot), PrtSc works, clock/timezone/keyboard were set OOTB, the audio driver is also fantastic, there are some default keyboard shortcuts set (close window, logout, the basic ones) but I don't think they're configurable. Low, normal fan speeds, even turning off at idle for a several seconds or more... this live OS isn't stressing the hardware. It's sluggish sometimes running from USB, but it's not crashing.
The OS windows shown in that second scrot look fantastic, IMO. The window gaps and corner roundness, the panel integration, the icon theme design and continuity (except for my YT icon, that went bye-bye somehow), the blurred opacity... all top notch.
No, he can't sleep on the floor. What do you think I'm yelling for?!!!

@marens, thanks for the additional info.
No problem.
We are here to help each other if possible.
I have an old Mcata-dark (with gresources) gtk theme and I will try to explain in more detail.
There is a gtk.css file in the gtk-3.0 folder and I will try to replace the symbolic icons (nautilus sidebar) by adding my code below.
gtk.css:
@import url("resource:///org/gnome/Mcata-theme/gtk.css");
/* Nautilus Sidebar Icons - SM*Settings */
.nautilus-window placessidebar.sidebar {
-gtk-icon-style: regular; }
Any line added below will override what is in gresources.
I think now you understand better what I wanted to say.
Note *
You are using the latest system and you may need to further examine the nautilus sidebar with the GTK inspector.

If people would know how little brain is ruling the world, they would die of fear.

Better than conky?
sfwbar with interactive widgets
Still WIP, some bugs and formatting to iron out, like day not highlighted in calendar, disk icon needs work.
#!/bin/sh
echo '#include <stdio.h>\nvoid main() { printf("Hi, bunsenlabs\\n"); return; }' > bunsen.c
gcc bunsen.c -o bunsen

Now have mpd album art working in the sfwbar side widget.
For more see the sfwbar discussion including partial configs. All configs will be up at that link tomorrow or over the week end.
#!/bin/sh
echo '#include <stdio.h>\nvoid main() { printf("Hi, bunsenlabs\\n"); return; }' > bunsen.c
gcc bunsen.c -o bunsen

Thank you, @micko01, for your hard work as a lone fighter.
On a 'half-finished test environment' (not carbon) I'm not convinced, compared to Conky.
The code for the kernel and CPU temp is already above my pay grade.
The kernel 6.0.6 does not exist here, because a neutered output would result:
uname -r | cut -d '-' -f1
6.10.8

RebornOS which is an Arch based distro on my main laptop with openbox window manager. It has replaced my ArchBang install since ArchBang is soon to be history.
I use Arch BTW! If it is not rolling, it is stagnant!
