I was the major asshole about joining with #!++, I hated the way they approached us out of nowhere, I hated their Sex Pistols/Phillip bondage/ball-gag logo, I hate them. I'm not an objective voice here. #!++ can burn in hell.

I gave this nice lady crap, for goodness sake...

Re: BunsenLabs Reviews

I was referring to the previous post "someone else likes us a lot", not the BL & #!++ one that Bob put up before my "take a bow" thing.

(Although I also had that register article ready to post.)

It's true that I've seen a lot of approving remarks here and there about the appearance of Boron.

I was also pissed off the way the #!++ guy (I think it's one guy) jumped in and tried to take over as soon as Philip stepped out. And also that he ignored Philip's request not to use the name "Crunchbang". But the distro itself seems to be OK.

That make at least half a dozen of us John.
His total++ lack of respect to Core and his wishes concerning the name is what got me.

Re: BunsenLabs Reviews

Someone's given us a mention in the latest edition of Linux Format magazine, in conjunction with CrunchBang++, in the "Meet The Team" section just inside the front cover;

Les Pounder:

"I have a deep love for CrunchBang Linux. Since that project ended, I've been using BunsenLabs and CrunchBang++ on my old Lenovo X220.

If you have old kit and want to keep using it, CrunchBang++ / Bunsen Labs can squeeze a little more life from it."

Not exactly a review but Joe Ressington of Late Night Linux recently installed Bunsenlabs and likes it.  https://fosstodon.org/@JoeRess/112617491345890824

Re: BunsenLabs Reviews

^Nice to see someone else like BL, though I'm also curious why his Debian install failed twice, while ours worked, since they're basically the same thing.

^ He didn't say what ISO he was using, that could be a factor. netinstall, GNOME, KDE, Xfce? Did he sha256sum it? Was it a torrent? Did he use a daily snapshot? Do the new non-free-included ISO's also include the b43 driver? Yes, questions (Roy Batty, Blade Runner).

Well lol , I must say that I rarely look at verifying the sha256sum sadly anough, even if I know about it.

Anyways. it never got passed the partition table or whatever it s called on auto partitionning if it can be told. But this is one of my problems, weird it installed on a M.2 SSD a while ago, but I had an AMD GPU, wonder if it has anything to do with it.

It might be one of the reasons why it didn t wanted to install on my new tower, I might download another copy & verify the sum later on. I m supposed to get some more SSDs later on, so I ll install some distros in there, of which is a payne with an NVidia GPU I must say, Only 3 distros installed with that GPU out of the box for now without me doing anything. But I also have to test some more.

Yes, that's something to look into.
@hhh you've got a b43 laptop right? I don't remember right now, but if the debian-installer sets up the network before it starts writing to the hard disk, I don't suppose you could run a trixy installer iso (they're all supposed to enable non-free firmware now I think) and see if it finds the network? (Then abort out.)

It's quite likely still to be the catch-22 situation, though, where it has to download the firmware from somewhere...

This laptop is no more. It has ceased to be. It's expired and gone to meet its maker. It's bleedin' demised! Bereft of life, it rests in peace. If its chassis wasn't nailed to the desk, it would be pushing up the daisies! It is an ex-laptop.

IT tech: Well, I'd better replace it then.

Re: BunsenLabs Reviews

I've an old laptop with b43 wireless.

That might be problematic, since you specified trixie, she's 32 bit laptop, & for 32 bit there's only the netboot iso, which I already know can only do the wired ethernet, not the wireless.

I think the question was actually about are such tricks needed with the trixie netinstall, which Debian don't appear to be building for 32 bit Trixie, & I could indeed do the download & manually install thing.

To find out if a Trixie installer deals with it without manual intervention or resorting to sneaker-net which I think was the point of @johnraff's question, I'll have to scout round (dig through the junkpile) & see if I've some 64 bit machine that has a slot that horrid Belkin PCMCIA wireless adapter will fit.
