Thanks, @Nili.  Keeping it simple keeps it easy.

Right? I love the "Eureka!" moments but, man, getting there can be time consuming to say the least. At least you regularly use terminal apps, IMO that makes the tiling wm usage easier, initially.

I am loving your tiling wm stint. Ten years too late, with glitterslob on standard Gnome...

Thanks! I don't recall sloth ever posting a scrot of GNOME, though. cwm was an early one for him.

I'm just trying to learn, I doubt I'll ever use a tiling WM/compositor as my main desktop unless the GNOME devs really blow it in the future, which is certainly possible. GNOME 45 is a great release. It's fast, light, feature complete, does all the tiling I need and is 100% easier to use and configure than any other Wayland desktop. tongue It's what you're running too, isn't it?

GNOME 45 with Tiling Assistant extension...

Quite right.  For me it's the incompatibility with my Nvidia GPU.  River mostly works but I get regular crashes.

I am running Gnome 43 on Bookworm. I had a short stint back with scrotwm, but other than that, it has been Gnome all the way ever since Wheezy.

Re: March 2024 Screenshot Thread

@shortcarflyer, you can format your scrot so it links to a full-screen image.

~ Upload a scrot to imgur, wait till it shows "Upload complete"
~ Right-click the image>Open in New Tab
~ Switch to the new tab, you should see a full-size image
~ Copy the URL of that tab
~ In this thread, create a post {url=}{img}{/img}{/url} but replace the curly brackets with square ones
~ Paste your url after the equals sign
~ Paste it again between the IMG tags, then add the letter t (for thumbnail) before .png (or .jpg/jpeg)
~ Preview and post.

Example, my last scrot... Full-size image URL...
https://i.imgur.com/Ubi2cCV.png

Thumbnail URL...
https://i.imgur.com/Ubi2cCVt.png

The thumbnail URL leads to a 404 but works when wrapped in BBCode IMG tags...
Ubi2cCVt.png

The thumbnail doesn't link to anything because I didn't further wrap it in URL tags.

Re: March 2024 Screenshot Thread

^ I think this is much better and easier:
https://postimages.org

Copy the image to the desktop folder.

Open the link above > Choose Images > Open > Copy Thumbnail for forums URL > Paste in your post.

Done.

Back with dwm.  The riverwm and dwl experiment was more trouble than it was worth.

Re: March 2024 Screenshot Thread

@marens, @shortcarflyer, if you use xfce4-screenshooter it will give you an option to host on Imgur and then you click on the link for BBCode, simple. I gave instructions for hot-linking directly to the full-size image, which takes a few more steps.

But for any of the hosts, like for @Dobbie's beautiful, latest scrot, right-click the image on the host site and Open in New Tab to see it full-size.

I use Ubuntu with GNOME.

I know your users have reported a problem with the imgur service.
You'll probably need to modify the script you've been using so far (Thunar).

Until that happens, postimage is a great solution.
