Re: [STABLE RELEASE] BunsenLabs Boron Official ISOs

^If you've installed the beta, then there's no need to re-install. Just keep your packages up to date through the usual apt update/upgrade process and you will have any improvements that were added after the beta release.

Re: [STABLE RELEASE] BunsenLabs Boron Official ISOs

After a very pleasant exchange of emails with Jessie @ DistroWatch today, he's updated the scrot of Boron with the image I sent him, showing the current default desktop (scrot by John, I assume).

Cool.

Scrot by BLOB, pretty much by itself. smile
I just copied it out of the preset blobs collection directory.

Re: [STABLE RELEASE] BunsenLabs Boron Official ISOs

Boron looks amazing!  I am very eager to take it for a spin on my ancient HP Pavilion laptop!  On a related note, is it feasible to do an upgrade to Boron from Beryllium?  I think I did something similar for the upgrade to Beryllium.
Thanks again,
-Rick

Very nice work team, thank you. Mighty great first impression of "Boron". However I will have to consider several of the different opportunities given here for the daily stuff.

Anyway, thank you for all the work once again, you are the best out here. smile

Absolutely...

Please post upgrade questions in that thread or start a new thread. Don't use this thread for help support, thanks!

Please note, to upgrade from an earlier version of BunsenLabs, you should follow the Debian method of upgrading through releases one by one, lithium to beryllium to boron, for example. Backing up your files and performing a fresh boron install might prove easier, in that case.

Re: [STABLE RELEASE] BunsenLabs Boron Official ISOs

Sorry if this has been asked, but are there any guides to safely upgrade from Beryllium to Boron? I know it's usually just upgrading and changing sources, but maybe there are some extra steps?

Perhaps a sticky would be a good idea?=)

https://www.debian.org/releases/bookwor … ng.en.html

Or, if your on i386...

https://www.debian.org/releases/bookwor … ng.en.html

To summarize...

In your sources.list file(s) (/etc/apt/sources.list and etc/apt/sources.list.d/)...

Disable all third party sources (put a # before each line).

[added by johnraff] Run 'sudo apt update' and 'sudo apt upgrade' to make sure everything in Beryllium & Bullseye is up to date before upgrading.

Change the debian sources from bullseye to bookworm.

In bunsen.list, change beryllium to boron.

  • Run 'sudo apt update' (in a terminal, without the quote marks).

  • Optional: Run 'sudo apt upgrade --without-new-pkgs'. Reboot. Check that you can still login.

  • Run 'sudo apt full-upgrade'. Reboot.

Enable 3rd party sources and run 'sudo apt update'.

Re: [STABLE RELEASE] BunsenLabs Boron Official ISOs

There's a Lithium>Beryllium upgrade guide: https://forums.bunsenlabs.org/viewtopic.php?id=8295
A few things would need to be changed there, such as the repository names, but it should help.

Yes it would, and I think someone will probably write one before long.

Re: [STABLE RELEASE] BunsenLabs Boron Official ISOs

Added a step to @hhh's post: best to make sure everything is up to date before changing repositories.

Congrats on the Boron release and it's fantastic. Kudos to the team despite how long it took to get this release ready.

If anyone still is running Lithium they should upgrade to Beryllium then to Boron?

Yes indeed. One step at a time.
I meant that the Lithium>Beryllium guide could be used as a general guide for upgrading Beryllium>Boron - with some edits of course.

Congratulations on the release of Boron - it works great and looks beautiful. Boron Aqua Light is my favorite theme.
Every Bunsenlabs release is a great source of inspiration for me. Thanks to the entire BL team smile

Cheers, thanks for that! I've upgraded by editing sources.list a thousand times, but it's always some time between each time so I forget what the important steps are. In any case, upgraded successfully, after clearing out some nasty problems with disabled me from configuring the new kernel.

I think if you write an official guide for upgrading to Boron, add in a line about *not* running "apt autodelete" and "apt autoclean" before the final reboot. I'm not sure if Linux will allow you to delete previous kernels if the newest one is left unconfigured, but since I got some errors, I didn't remove the previous kernel. This was good, because it allowed me to boot the system on the old kernel to fix all the issues that prevented configuring of the newest. What caused issues were
- Nvidia drivers (i uninstalled everything Nvidia)
- rtl drivers had to be replaced (found newer ones here https://github.com/morrownr/)
- had to uninstall Wireguard

after I had done all this, I could configure the kernel and from there it was smooth sailing.
