Reboot freezes at: kvm: exiting hardware virtualization

Used various debian linux for years, but new to Boron. Installed on an older multiboot (linux only) MacBook. Upon reboot, process freezes at: kvm: exiting hardware virtualization. Did an internet search, but didn't find anything useful. Xubuntu-18 and Mint-19.3 (not current) boot/reboot OK, but Boron boots fine but hangs on reboot

Is this ( the ending part with the blue background ) irrelevant?

Re: Reboot freezes at: kvm: exiting hardware virtualization

OK, I tried that, but shutdown still freezes at "kvm: exiting hardware virtualization"

Could this be an issue in newer kernels? I see that some solutions say go back to an earlier kernel. But for me (and my older Mac 6.2) that makes BunsenLabs linux non-compatible. Perhaps this is the case, but I'd like to know for sure.
