Hello all,
been a while since ive posted on here, everything was sweet with Lithium but wanted to try out Berylium. However, upon booting a live usb image of it i encountered a problem (it also now happens to lithium iso as well), it boots up fine with menus intact etc..but when i click anything from the menu there is no repsonse , tried web browser, file manager, nothing. The only thing that seems to work is the shutdown menu? Any idea of what the problem is? Ive burnt the image using both Rufus and Balenaetcher but still no joy, and unusual thing is it also happens with Lithium too. The isos ive downloaded are the ones from the BL website.
Thanks for any help its appreciated.
regards
foyle

There is no "Shutdown menu". There is an submenu labeled "Exit", where you ncan choose "Shutdown". So, the "Exit" menu works? No other submenus?
Does the Debian menu (jgmenu > "All applications" work? Can you start applications with gmrun (alt + F2).
If you start terminal with gmrun and start jgmenu from terminal (command jgmenu_run), do you get any errors in the terminal?
Is there same problem if you boot the live session to failsafe?
Does dmenu (Alt+F3) works. With gmrun and dmenu, you have alternative to jg,menu.
Does jgmenu works in your Lithium installation? (You ought to upgrade to or install beryllium.)
Any idea of what the problem is?
No, never experienced or heard of anything alike that.

Please try burning the iso with some of the recommended methods. Rufus is known for not working very well if I remember correctly.

Hi rbh,
thanks for the reply and help. There is a quick update, Berylium and Lithium do work when i try the USBs with another pc so i think its got something to do with the way the bios is set up maybe on this particular PC? Other distros I've tried work without problems with this PC. But with Bunsenlabs everything loads up on booting, i go to the jgmenu press on any of the choices i.e. web browser, media player, aplications and nothing comes up on the screen its as if it hasnt recognised the mouse click? Same thing with right click on desktop, click on something nothing comes up on the screen. Will try the Alt +F3. Thanks again

Thanks for the input. Always used either of these and always worked, burnt countless distros with Rufus and all worked fine. As stated, i did try this particular USB with another PC and everything worked so its something to do with my other PC set up i think.

Hardly.
Have you installed BL on it? If so, does the installed system works ok?
In the live session, can you start applications with gmrun or dmenu?
Do you get any errors, when starting jgmenu from terminal?
If you can't open terminal, can you switch to an tty?
Anything special in the journal?

But you got the exit menu?
Same thing with right click on desktop, click on something nothing comes up on the screen.
? So, how dit you got the exit-menu?
Can you start jgmenu with key Mod4 (Window-key), navigate with arrow keys and choose with Enter key?

Rufus works if you write in dd-mode.

rbh, tried all of those you mentioned, nothing works. As mentioned before I boot up the live usb, I get the welcome message appear, the menu icon in bottom left hand corner, and the power/shutdown/logout icon in the bottom right corner, but unusally there is no volume icon etc..with it? Very unusual indeed. I installed Lithium on this very same PC a couple of years ago without problems.I'm convinced its got something to do with the Bios thats not enabling it to load properly. Like i say have tried this Berylium live USB and the Lithium one on another PC and an IMac just now and no problems at all, super responsive as it should be. p.s. apologies for posting the long quote in previous post!

When I booted up again in failsafe mode, it come up with the error "LDM Light Display Manager" failed to start, so reckon it could be something with the graphics setting maybe on start up? Like i say when i try in normal boot live mode not all the icons in the bottom right corner show up eg.volume, time etc..really unusual, had recent problems with the bios so not sure if something has gone wrong along the way? But will look into more, many thanks to all especially rbh for giving the help and advice.

@foyle, let's start get some basic information before going further... "this PC" tells us nothing. What make and model is it? Is it 64 bit or 32 bit? Is this the machine your burning the ISO to USB from? If so, or if not, what OS is it currently running?
You said your USB booted successfully on another PC, what machine (make and model, 32 or 64 bit), was that?
"Recent problem with the BIOS", say what now? What problem?
I don't care what you do at home. Would you care to explain?

@hhh -Thanks for the reply. The PC im having issues with is a Dell Precision T1700 workstation. Its currently running Windows 10 Enterprise 64 bit. It did have Lithium booting along side with Win 10 Pro, but those both got corrupted. Win 10 Enterprise is a fresh install. The PC the live USB (Lithium and Berylium) worked on is a custom PC which is 64bit with Asus motherbard. The DELL pc is booting in Legacy at the moment which could be the issue, maybe? The other machine the live usbs worked on was a Imac 2011.
The problem with the Bios was it got corrupted somehow, couldnt fix MBR, Grub went all weird as well.

OK, so the PC is working at the moment running Windows 10 64 bit and booting using the Windows bootloader?
Might as well try one more time using our latest Boron build which is based on the newest Debian stable release, Debian 12...
https://forums.bunsenlabs.org/viewtopic.php?id=8617
Verify the sha256 checksum using these instructions...
https://techdocs.akamai.com/download-ct … y-checksum
If you want to stick with Beryllium instead, use the torrent link...
https://ddl.bunsenlabs.org/ddl/berylliu … so.torrent
You don't need to verify the torrent file, the BitTorrent protocol has a built-in integrity check, and you can be assured our torrent doesn't contain malware.
Then transfer the ISO to USB using the instructions here, using balenaEtcher (link on the page)...
https://ubuntu.com/tutorials/install-ub … -usb-stick
If it still doesn't work the problem probably is with your computer, although you could try using another distro ISO image to be sure. Good luck, I'm keeping my fingers crossed and/or holding my thumbs for you!

@hhh
Just downloaded Boron and burnt it with Balenaetcher. It loads on the Dell T1700 but only in UEFI mode, functionality is not 100% but right click menu and I can use the web browser and everything else in fact writing this message down whilst in the live mode. Only issues are can only see the time on bottom left hand side i.e. no time icon, or bluetooth or volume just the time showing and Conky does not seem to appear? So it's definitely progress! Will try with the downloaded Berylium iso now, as not sure whether Boron will work 100% without teething problems, just need something to work out of the box at the moment! Thanks for your help again
