Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

I'm taking these last two posts together because they both deal with conky.

ceeslans wrote:

I haven't seen the latest one yet. The conky configuration in MX KDE 21 is unspectacular but I find it fairly clear.

But that's the beauty of Linux and Conky you can have them both "your way".

You can, but it takes a bit of editing configuration files and isn't a beginner's level task. The themes which come with Legacy all have the clock more to the centre than they are there (see the THEMES screenshots above the DESKTOP one);

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

@Colonel Panic

That clock is a modified Gotham conky (author TeeJee - I think it's from 2014).
It's always on my desktops with some modifications.

I recently wrote about it in this forum:

Thanks, I'll have a look at that thread. I've looked at the Conky thread before but most of the posters there are trying to do more elaborate things with their Conky configs than I either want or need; all I want displayed are the time, day and date, CPU usage, swap and memory usage. I also don't want to get into lua scripting if I can possibly avoid it.

Well, I disagree with that "and isn't a beginner's level task" part.
My first experience with Linux was in July 2007 when Win2k died.
I installed Ubuntu 07.04 the next day.
Joined the Ubuntu forums in Sept 2007
24 Dec 2007 I discovered conky
- my fist ever conky post
- my conky - ugly as anything.
And I wrote my fist Conky HowTo on 22 July 2008 a year later that Ubuntu used to put in their "help" section and still use the basic setup I wrote. SettingUpConky

Conky is as simple or as complex as you want it to be.

In fact it was a compliment.

Full agreement with @johnraff.

@marens,

for heaven's sake. What a misunderstanding(s) on your part!

'game weather idiots' referred to the weather service providers Wunderground; Weather.com and Accuweather, which by their, as Teo once wrote, senseless changes make the Conky weather life difficult for all of us.

@Sector11 and I know each other for a long time and we like to do our Schabernack.

This is not my native language either. So, it's difficult sometimes.

PLEASE ask in the future if you don't understand something or a misunderstanding is imminent.

One? From your own links below there are at least two and most of my post were directed at others not you.  Am I not allowed to talk with my friends?

I am posting to unklar who is making a comment about the "weather providing sites" and if memory serve me he is referring to something TEO said about them.  So in fact your "one name appears" is wrong as this had nothing to do with you.  And unklar cleared that fact up as well.

[Ctrl]+[Shift]u+1f305 or 1f312 did not work for me.  You responded in the following post and that was that.  Systems are different.  No problem here.

Again another comment to unklar, not you, a joke about making no wind with my breath.  Two posts later unklar said he's older so could not hold it long.  That interaction was not directed at you by either one of us.  We are just old friends in time and age.

And another link where I posted a funny comment to my friend unklar and you are saying this is intervening in your posts?  You are clearly in the wrong.

I wasted my time here: 5th link

Hmmmm I asked you to post the whole thing because in your previous post you said:

If anyone wants to try 7-day forecast, I will post my solution.

And you replied in the next post:

OK

Find Line: {snip}

How is that wasting your time?

The last one: Link 6

As you can see I progressed from the qualification of 'game weather idiots' (first link) to 'collector of miscellaneous useless objects' (last link).

unklar has explained what: "game weather idiots" was about.

I have spent HOURS looking for conkys I have to help people that is why I said:

Conkys are not useless.
Well except for people that don't like them or use them.

So if you really want to leave and stop helping people with Teos scripts or conky in general that is all on you but you will be leaving for the wrong reason.
The people you were helping will miss you as much as they miss Teo.

Have a nice day.

EDIT:  My corrected post

OK let's get back to distro hopping and put conkys in the conky threads.

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

@All

@unklar has nothing to do with it (game weather idiots). He made his post before. @Sector11 quoted him while I was trying to help another user.
Topic: Weather.
Coincidence?

For all other cases, you should look at a couple of posts before @Sector11 appear.The context is always the same.
Coincidence?

I just ignored it.

I want my name not to be associated with game weather idiots or collector of various useless items in any context.

I don't like that way and that's why I addressed him publicly.

I have nothing against @Sector11.
I just kindly asked him not to do similar things in the future.

Friends are allowed things that others are not.
Everyone can choose friends, I hope it's not forbidden if you don't want someone to be your friend but I always respect everyone.

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

I've just installed the latest version of Sparky LXQT, Sparky 8 (Seven Sisters), and it's working well although I don't much like the aesthetics of it. Sparky works on a similar principle to Zenwalk; one application per function but with most things covered.

It's probably best that I don't comment on the Conky controversy except to say, thanks to everyone who has helped with advice. There doesn't seem to be a right or wrong to this; you can have a fully featured Conky (but with smaller text, to get it all in) or a more sparsely featured one with larger fonts, and it's a matter of personal preference which you choose.

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

@ Colonel Panic et al

I have always tried to help people with conkys since I fist discovers I actually could help.
I am not going to stop over a misunderstanding on the part of someone else.
His problem is not my problem.
I explained my position, and other theirs.  The people that were benefiting with help with Teo's scripts will feel the crunch.
If you want to talk conky feel free to do so.
I'd be glad to help you get that nice simple conky running that you said you wanted.
However best to keep it in the conky threads.
I can make that conky a lot simpler than it is as well.  Lots of commands in the text area that really are not needed.
