Hi forum, first post.
I used Crunchbang Linux long ago. Liked it at the time. Trying now Bunsenlabs as a daily driver (and I like it).
Because I was looking for reviews of Bunsenlabs I found there are some other distros out there who at first glance look very similar. Or at least are related.
I found Crunchbang++ that looks very close to Bunsenlabs (at first glance), only they are based on Debian 12. And Mabox Linux that seems to be a (very nice) pimped up version. Maybe there are more. Those two came also floating on top when searching for Bunsenlabs reviews.
What I am curious about is;
How does Bunsenlabs compares with other Openbox distros? I mean mostly in vision, in direction.
I can imagine that other openbox distros have made decisions, changes and additions to the OS that would not fit in Bunsenlabs because of the desire to be something else.
I also wonder of there is an indication how small or big Bunsenlabs is in developers and user base compared to other Openbox projects?

We are tiny. Right now it's just @johnraff doing the heavy lifting, @rbh moderating the forums, and me doing theming. Of course it's also all of us making suggestions, and I mean the whole forum, but in reality it's maybe 30 regulars.
I have no idea what CB++ is doing, I thought their distro was done. I have never heard of Mabox.
We have no desire to be something else, other than to be a Debian stable setup with Openbox as the window manager, and to have a novice-friendly forum.
I don't care what you do at home. Would you care to explain?

Mabox is based on Manjaro so the underlying distro is Arch Linux. They use the LTS kernel, but otherwise it's the Arch rolling release model. More along the lines of Siduction (Debian Sid) than BunsenLabs (Debian Stable).
You must unlearn what you have learned.

Thanks for the clarification.
It is impressive that this distro keeps going with so few people making it happening.

We have a fairly large following from people with low-spec computers, and I swear our insistence in being unpretentious when it comes to answering support questions has been huge. The Debian and Arch forums used to be brutal to beginners.
Also, having non-free enabled by default and Broadcom drivers and multimedia codecs included, in a LIVE ISO, I mean... now Debian has non-free by default. Copycats.
Anyway, we tinker, some people are into it, so we'll keep it up while we can.
