Guys,
Quick question just for my own edification:
I seem to have gotten fairly modern versions of most things after getting the apt-get update to work....but the latest Youtube-dl it installed was from 2017(!!!), with no further update available. Just curious as to why that might be.
I did remove that old version YT-dl, and installed the latest one via curl. Still getting the infamous "uploader id" error...but so it seems is everyone else. turns out that YT-dl isn't being maintained very much these days...so going down this whole rabbit hole, which was initially prompted by that YT-dl error, was pretty much for naught.....
But I'm just curious as to why Synaptic is giving me a YT-dl from 2017?!

Sorry, off-topic, maybe because there is a new kid in town called "yt-dlp".

So I've seen- Unfortunately, I can't use it, 'cause the latest Python I can conjur is 3.5, and yt-dlp requires 3.7 or higher..... It's a conspiracy I tells ya!

This is what happens if you persist in staying on an outdated distribution!
Final advice: back up your necessary personal data somewhere, make a fresh install of BunsenLabs Beryllium and import the data.
...elevator in the Brain Hotel, broken down but just as well...
( a boring Japan blog (currently paused), now on Bluesky, there's also some GitStuff )

Looks like I'll have to bite the bullet and do that. I kinda like to see how long I can go without doing any updates on a virgin install- but alas, the way things are moving, I think I'll just have to start keeping updated in the future. It was a nice ride while it lasted. (Back in my Windows[shudder] days, you wouldn't believe how long I survived with Windows98...)
