Cannot set 'theme' on new installation(RESOLVED)

I am doing a fresh install of Lithium 2.1 on Dell Model D06S PC. When I bring up the "Openbox Configuration Manager" with:

preferences --> Openbox -> WM Preferences

and click on the "Theme" tab, a number of themes are presented. When I select a theme, by clicking on it, it becomes highlighted. I then close the window, but the new theme does not become active. I have tried logout/login and even rebooting but the new theme does not get activated. It does not matter with what theme is selected, the initial theme remains.

I've never had trouble with this in the past with previous Lithium 2.1 installations. I'm thinking that possibly the software does not properly reset the hardware, but this is only a guess.

Any suggestions or help will be much appreciated.

Re: Cannot set 'theme' on new installation(RESOLVED)

I've never experienced anything like that.

Is it the same problem with another user?
Does changing theme being reflectred in config file ~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini? (line beginign with "gtk-theme-name=").
I see the change of theme already before closing obconf.

But, why not try new installation with Beryllium instead of clinging to old lithium?

@jj you are aware that the Openbox theme only affects the outside of the window: the title bar, border etc?

If you want to change the theme of the window contents that's the GTK theme:
Preferences > Appearance

But an upgrade to Beryllium is recommended anyway.

@rbh and johnraff

I installed beryllium and I had no trouble setting the theme. The problem with the Lithium installation was strange. I have a done a number of Lithium installs and never had that problem. I am closing this thread.

Thanks for both of your replies!

@johnraff

I was not aware of setting the GTK theme with Preferences --> Appearance. That was a big help to me in getting the look that I feel comfortable with.
