@topdollar, thank you. This release was mostly @johnraff, big kudos to him. The default theme is by @sleekmason, awesome work! The menu is by @malm, too cool for school. Other features are work improved upon from previous releases (@Sector11, @damo, etc... all great work). I think the wallpaper is mine, more or less.

A huge thanks to our forum members for their input, feedback, contributions and patience.

And let's not forget all the work @nobody did behind the scenes to make the forum migration go smoothly and the mechanisms he created so that BunsenLabs could continue...

9/11 and the contributions of @nobody for getting our forums to where they are now. Never forget.

Okay, adding Sept. 11 in there is a bit of hyperbole, but it works.

Re: [STABLE RELEASE] BunsenLabs Beryllium Official ISOs

I installed the 32bit version of [beryllium] on my x40 yesterday.
To do this I used the text installer in expert mode and selected 'manual setup' for the disks. Therefore, because the existing swap and the other installation on the device, nakedeb, should be preserved. Replaced my previous lithium installation.

The installation was completed after 20 minutes. LAN and Wifi were set up correctly. Only criticism was the wrong resolution of the Dragon wallpaper after the first start. I don't like the dark theme anyway, so it was replaced with the usual lithium themes.

By the way, in the grub menu the resolution of the dragon image is ok.

Today I have bluetooth set up. Everything is perfect. Let's see how long beryllium runs smoothly on the weak computer.
Speaking of smooth, I'm looking for FF-esr version 78 as 386deb package, anyone have a tip?    wink

Thanks, @johnraff, thanks to the team.

@unklar, thanks for the feedback!

You can download the tar.bz2 for that Firefox version in the language of your choice here...

https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/rel … inux-i686/

Unzip the tar. Inside the firefox-78.9.0esr folder is a folder called "firefox". Copy that to somewhere in your home directory. Inside that folder is a file also called "firefox", clicking that will open a browser. If you need help setting up a shortcut, create a support thread.

We picked 1440x900 as default, and also ship 1280x1024 and 1920x1080 as discussed here, and preceding. We hoped those ratios would look OK when resized on most screens...

@unklar what is the resolution of your display?

Re: [STABLE RELEASE] BunsenLabs Beryllium Official ISOs

Not sure if this is the right place, but I just tried installing Beryllium. Two things I noticed: first, the Lithium ISO booted up saying "BunsenLabs Lithium", but the Beryllium ISO just says "BunsenLabs". I thought maybe I had grabbed an old version (particularly as it looked... um... less polished, a rough undone look, but I gather that is the minimalist aesthetic you are shooting for.) I had to re-download the ISO to make sure I had in fact gotten the right one.

Go for the look you want, but I would suggest you put the version name on the screen in the future.

The second thing I noticed is that when it went to set up the network, it defaulted to the name of "bunsenlab-helium". Perhaps it somehow found that name from the existing Helium installation on my PC, or perhaps it is a name that was never updated in the source files. It also gave me pause... did I in fact have the right ISO?

Other than those two things, it did work correctly out of the box and that is what is important.

David

Good idea. I think we should definitely put the release name back in the installer grub splash image for Boron. It's very clear in the top right for Lithium.

Blame the unpolished installer look on me - the dark GTK theme (which we did indeed want) was done by @sleekmason, but @hhh who usually does the installer graphics was MIA at the time.

I think that's what happened. I noticed the same fallback to a previous hostname when installing. It was coming from my computer, not from the installer.

Re: [STABLE RELEASE] BunsenLabs Beryllium Official ISOs

Regarding the installer header, I can add "Lithium" to it easily, but let's instead add this to our next release, "Boron", which is built from Debian "Bookworm". Bookworm (Debian 12) is already beginning to freeze...

FIFY smile
I'm sure you can fix the splash image easily, but then the iso would have to be rebuilt with the new image (amd64 and i386 builds), uploaded to the server, new checksum and torrent files made, website updated and an announcement made.

So agreed, let's do it in Boron.

Found also this piece of light reading:
Release Notes for Debian 12 (bookworm), 64-bit PC
It's still a WIP though.

---
I've started uploading migrated Beryllium packages - minimum changes so far - to the new Boron repositories.
Once they're all in place - maybe another week - it should be possible to install as before from a Debian Bookworm netinstall base system. It will be interesting to try upgrading from Beryllium too...

Anyway, I'll post an announcement when it's ready for people to play with. smile

Re: [STABLE RELEASE] BunsenLabs Beryllium Official ISOs

^^ Yes that sounds like very great news to me too. And for the record, have had zero issues with Beryllium so far so it feels kind of weird to start on the next level so soon. But know with myself that I will not be able to resist the temptation when time comes. Not this time at the least, I were a bit on and off with the Beryllium development cycle.

Re: [STABLE RELEASE] BunsenLabs Beryllium Official ISOs

^ With me being gone and @nobody retiring from BL, @johnraff had the heavy lifting of both migrating the forums to something he could maintain and also building Beryllium, with the added pressure of real life. As a result, Beryllium was at least a full year behind the release of Debian stable Bullseye.

We very much want to get synced with the next release of Debian stable, Bookworm, Boron in the BL naming scheme. Bookworm is already in its early freeze so time is of the essence for us...

Re: [STABLE RELEASE] BunsenLabs Beryllium Official ISOs

^ Well sometimes things don´t go as planned and one have to reschedule, and then life stuff gets in the way and it takes the time it takes to get back on track.

So no worry, I am used to those kind of things from personal experience so no problem for me that Beryllium was late. Let us all look forward to Boron now and just be excited about it! smile

Re: [STABLE RELEASE] BunsenLabs Beryllium Official ISOs

As usual, I am a day late and a dollar short. I have been gone a while (life happened) but was unaware of nobody and hhh leaving the project. What's the story, or was it also a (life happened) deal? If it's none of my business, feel free to tell me to jog on. I'll understand. I didn't realize the project was in any peril. I feel sorta bad now. Hope all is well with everyone.

I have not left the project (sorry, haters). @nobody has resigned from the Dev Team but has been of invaluable help in transitioning the web presence to @johnraff, and still checks in frequently. There are still some web bugs, for example new forum member registrations are broken for us ATM, I think.

John is hoping to release a test ISO of Boron/Bookworm in May or June, depending on how the stars align. Everybody, open your chakras and chant "There is only Zuul!" Alternatively, "ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOSLOTH!"
