It's come on a long way since then (I assume you had version 1)? If you've got a spare CD-R and decide to give it a go, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

The concept of @cog has stuck with me. However, I hadn't really worked with a window manager of this type, and, dk in particular. So, ergo, beginner.

For training, I installed that into QEMU.
The virtual disk was originally partitioned with cfdisk from siduction-nox. In doing so, I had set up swap as the first partiton and moved it to the end of the disk. Then I put sda2 and sda3 on it.
While the debian-text-installer, from Lilidog(Beardog) and his grub-installer, didn't get along with this scheme at all, the same worked with cogs's 'hatchery-riogrande' like a charm:
- ext4 installation on sda2
- exclude the existing swap by "do not use partition"
- grub into PBR from / (sda2)
Makes me wonder if Debian uses different installers, one can, the other can't.

At the moment I am very fond of 'hatchery'. Using the rofi takes you to the respective designated desktop 1-6 in fullscreen mode. The tiles change size depending on the number of programs.
The sftp connection guest - host worked immediately and perfectly.
The keyboard shortcuts displayed with Conky are an invaluable help.

What I haven't managed to get rid of so far is that ugly 'gnome-brown/yellow' with lxappearance. The folder icons refuse to take on the papirus grey color. @PackRat, if you're reading this, do you have a tip for a beginner?  wink

That would be a question for @cog. I think the default is his custom icon set built from papirus (sort of a ACYL clone that @cog wrote). Do they change color/style with the Newaita set? Don't know how much @cog drops by here, but you can find him at the ArchLabs forum (https://forum.archlabslinux.com/). He is answering questions about hatchery there.

It's the same picture for all of them.
Thanks for your answer, PackRat.

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

@unklar you probably just need to install "librsvg2-common" then try again.  I built the isos without "recommends" to keep it minimal, thus it's missing that package.

Also if you want to install recommended packages by default you'll want to delete /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/00recommends.  Then do an apt update.

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

BINGO, that's it!

librsvg2-common did the job. Thunar showed me the correct symbols immediately afterwards.

@cog,
thank you very much for stopping by here again and to the good spirit who arranged this.  wink

Thank you for the ISO and your brilliant idea with the 6 program workspaces (1) and the within the bar extending controls for brightness, volume and the logout dialog (2).
Something better I have not wished for Christmas.  QTVHQ1F.png

Thank you!

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

Glad you like it and good find on that librsvg package.  I’ll add it next time I build an ISO.

A Merry Christmas to all.

After installing hatchery on bare metal and making some adjustments, I still need to figure out the color of the ledge.
But, that will not happen today, I have to get to my kids and grandkids.  Jq9QN6O.png

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

@unklar I just pushed a new iso with the librsvg packages installed so lxappearance should be fixed on new installs.  That's a cool wall and conky.  Glad you like it.

Thanks @cog.
I was looking for the logo of 'hatchery', but found I had the logo of dk and the wallpaper of @natemaia.
And, since it should go quickly, I left it at that for now. wink

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

Over the long Christmas weekend I've downloaded several distros and tried to install them.

Salix 15.0 is excellent, and I was also impressed by the latest version of Siduction (WinterSky, the December 12th edition).

On the other hand, Manjaro's installer froze three times when I tried to install the distro, so I had to give it up as a bad job; and Slint's installer said it needed a 50 gigabyte partition in order to proceed so it will have to wait until I get a new computer (or hard drive).

I also had no luck installing Arch Labs, which I wrote about on their forum and put down to a dodgy ISO download. In case anyone's interested;

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

@unklar the svg is on the homepage of the hatcherylinux.org website.  Just right click on it.  BTW there is yet another iso based on some archlabs forum feedback

https://forum.archlabslinux.com/t/hatchery-help/7024/1

The changes only effect the live-session.

This is the help forum if you're savvy.

Thanks @cog, for the information.
The .svg I had already seen, but thought that there is only with the 4 fish, without the lettering.  wink

See you around.
