Netinstall and Wifi

Hi All

On to the next adventure.  I am installing using netinstall.  The vanilla debian portion went well but I assumed I would have a network over wifi since it asked for the configuration data when I installed it.  The installer found my network so all seemed good.  However, without the wifi network I can perform the netinstall portion of Bunselab.

Do I have to manually start the wifi network with the minimal Debian install and, if so, how do I do that?

Re: Netinstall and Wifi

You can boot BL Beryllium test iso to live session.
Chroot to your system and run the netinstall script.

Or, plug in a cable and run the netinstall script.

Or from the commandline  configure the wifi and run the netinstall script.

For configuring wifi from commandline, se:

Re: Netinstall and Wifi

Thanks for the detailed answer.  I do have a bit of a "chicken of the egg" issue.  nmcli is not installed during the minimal installation.  My goal was to use the encrypted lvm because I am installing on a laptop.  That is why I am starting from Debian since it is not available with Bunsenlab.  I haven't tried but can I chroot into an encrypted volume?

I am close.  I think I need to buy a USB Ethernet adapter to get it done because the laptop is wifi only.

You can from live session download packages to disk and reboot and install from disk...
Or run grml-debootstrap and list wifi packages to bee installed.

My goal was to use the encrypted lvm because I am installing on a laptop.  That is why I am starting from Debian since it is not available with Bunsenlab.

But Bunsenlabs has standard debian installer... LVM is available at installation. Sure encyption also should be available... Or encrypt after installation?

Of cource. If you can mount the encrypted lvm partition, you can chroot to it.

I think I need to buy a USB Ethernet adapter to get it done because the laptop is wifi only.

That might be the easist solution.

Perhaps I missed it.  I am prone to mistakes so I will look again.  This would be the best answer.

Thank you

Re: Netinstall and Wifi

I am a complete bonehead.  Encrypted LVM is there in the Bunsenlab installer.  That solves it.
