Updating Bunsenlabs

Hi all

A simple question really ,ive been using bunsenlabs linux for a couple of yrs,..idea being to move away from using windows completelly ,system is great to use,..very stable and fast, customisable and fun :-)..Plan to use Bunsenlabs as main os going foreward...
I noticed today after update that im still on debian 10 ,not clear on how the bunsenlabs and debian versions are linked when updating.(If they are).

So ,is it enough to update the system with sudo apt update and sudo apt upgrade?

Thanks

Re: Updating Bunsenlabs

BunsenLabs Lithium (current) is based on Debian 10. There will be a new release "Beryllium" before very long, based on Debian 11. If you don't want to wait, you can upgrade your system, but there are a few extra steps:

1) Comment out the BunsenLabs apt repository entry in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/bunsen.list
2) 'sudo apt update'.
3) Here's a simple guide to upgrading Debian itself: https://linuxize.com/post/how-to-upgrad … debian-11/ but also check the Debian docs: https://www.debian.org/releases/stable/ … ng.en.html
4)Make sure you back up your data! Edit your sources as instructed above and perform the apt update/upgrade/full-upgrade as described. You do not need to remove the BunsenLabs packages, they will be upgraded with the next step.
5) Check the instructions for installing an experimental Beryllium system: https://forums.bunsenlabs.org/viewtopic.php?id=7356 and start at 3) (ie after installing the Debian system).
6) When the official Beryllium release comes out you will need to edit /etc/apt/sources.list.d/bunsen.list again (we'll release instructions at that time).
7) You may still have some unneeded packages - BunsenLabs or other - on your system, but they should do no harm.

Re: Updating Bunsenlabs

Thanks,..honestly not in huge hurry to go to Beryllium ,..lithium has been exellent, and system updates flawlessly ,apart from 1 side by side update issue ,easily fixed a year ago,..only BL error ive had in two yrs, dispite heavy use, installs and customizations (carefully).:)
Appreciate the very clear info though, gone in my maintenance folder fr future reference

Thx again.
